This story is only interesting to me, but here goes...
I wanted to play the guitar since I was about 9 or 10 years old. When I was in the fifth grade I asked our band teacher if I could learn guitar that year. He said they didn't start students on guitar until 6th grade. So, the next year I went back and said, "Okay, I'm ready to start guitar". And he said, "You needed to start band last year."
From that day forward I loathed that particular individual, who also happened to be the bus driver on my route...
Anyway, flash forward several years. I joined the military and went through 6 months of technical school. I finally got to my permanent duty assignment and got my first real paycheck. I immediately went to the local guitar shop and bought a cheap Ibanez and starting taking lessons from some hack who told me he didn't have anything else to teach me when I came in the 3rd week finger tapping...
I really don't know what hooked me early on. No one in my family played an instrument or seemed to care much about music.
