Thanks again folks.

You know there is another common denominator here as there was in the "What made you start in Music?" thread although slightly different.
Over there it seemed to be the gene pool whereas here its largely doing it for yourself.... Just in case... So to speak.

I think that's fair comment too because with the odds of getting noticed probably in the region of about 10 Million to 1 it really shows just how hard it is to sell a bunch of CD'S

Besides which your music has to be good enough to warrant anyone wanting to listen to it doesn't it?

A promoter I know told me that it has to have "Good rhythm, Catchy lyrics, good image profile" and so on.
Hmmmm Mine will be nothing like that at all I fear, just not poppy enough although there are a few I could haul out to test the water.

I hope I am not boring anybody with this topic? I'm rather hoping it might provide a learning curve as it has done for me but for others too.

Thanks again folks.
Flattered truly.

:D so what else is new in this world of music, entertainment, songs? The same routine, different people, the cycle repeats itself again, and yes music does make one feel alive and different.

Chippy, you can also save money by designing your CD covers (front and back), save it as a jpeg, and take it to a printing shop and let them do the printing. That's if you're going to do like a hundred or so. And it will look more professional than printing them yourself and, mainly, the cutting out of them. If you are dead set on printing and cutting them yourself, you could go to a glass company and get one 8"X10" pane of glass to use as a cutting surface, and have them custom cut a 4 3/4"X9 1/2" glass to use as a template for the front bi-fold insert and a 4 3/4"X 4 7/8" glass template for the back panel (if you're doing full size jewel boxes). They are easy to position, holds the paper flat, and allows you to use a razor knife quicker and cleaner than buying a paper cutter. I bought a fairly good paper cutter just for this and it is a lot more trouble than it was worth. Now I've gone back to the glass pane and utility knife method.

funny how simple hand tools and a lil bit of know how work out so much better then any device to do the same thing (till you get to like I dunno working with sheet metal comes to mind) don't be afraid to take advantage of your friends chippy! that is what they are there for isn't it? when I get around to having an album I know I'm gonna give my artist friends a copy of the cd and tell them draw what it conjures in you, hopefully none of them would gripe about copyright stuff but I'd sort all that out after completion before cd release :D

Today I created many animals musically. This was a good thing! Happy with bass lines although timing sucks a little.

I AM A DRUMMER.After all and though I forget it amongst the keys and bass.

I does at last feel good to be with myself though lonely and misunderstood that may be?

You are a musician!
You know what I am talking about!

But the tunes are now coming, yet they are.

I think in the end you will have a CD that you can look back on 10-20 yrs from now. More than likely you wont be the next big thing or american idol. I hope you do, but more than likely that isnt happening.

So if I were you, I would make sure that I make the best CD I can music wise. Ive shared on here about a metal band I was in, in the early 80s, we spent a lot of money making an album that embarss's me to this day.

As for me anything else I do original will be to make ME happy.

Worrying about marketing, selling and playing live is bullshit if you have nothing to show. Make some killer songs, and make sure they ar recorded well, then worry about all this other stuff.

I hope u make something that you can be proud of down the road.

Good Luck

As an outside observer, with nothing to show, I concur with this angle. Being able to give the rest of potential band members material to go home and practice, as well as finding band members who like your music is probably the best use of a CD.

JW, you really peaked my interest. I really really really want to hear this embarrassing CD of yours ^.^

To be honest I'm finding this hard. In a band situation you can bounce ideas off people but alone in a sterile studio world I guess that's where confidence comes in perhaps?

Things are coming together but my word.....

I guess at the end of the day the 'Snail versus Rabbit' will kick in and I'll finally have something to show for my efforts. I think you are right Chris. Having something in hard copy will be best all round. It's just getting it together for me. :?

I'll do it though but I may bore a thousand members before I reach that gate. :D
Thanks very much.
