Glad you guys enjoyed them, gotta make some time soon to crop and edit a few more, got some nice ones the past few days. Wildflowers, grasshoppers and other insects this time, plus a couple of decent bird shots. One in particular is a great shot of a bumblebee digging into a thistle bloom. Just stopped and grabbed a couple of shots of some Indian Paintbrushes, haven't transferred them yet so I don't know how they came out.

Well, finally got a couple ready to go and thought I'd show them off. Sparrow on a feeder at my mother's house and a Pileated Woodpecker poking his head out of his nest to have a look around. I got to watch thi9s woodpecker and the female several times, but didn't get any great shots, this is about the best quality picture I got of either. They both apparently incubate their eggs, I watched them trade places in the nest and one would fly off to feed, and their trips were much too long to be feeding little ones so they have to be sitting on eggs.

The morning after this picture I watched the female come back to the nest and they changed places, she went into the nest and the male took off to feed. If they were trying to feed little ones one of them would be back to the nest every 5-10 minutes with groceries. Interesting to watch, and I happened to spot the nest by chance when the male landed on this tree and disappeared a few seconds later. I started looking for a hole, and found this one. 15-20 minutes later he finally poked his head out for a look around and I was watching it...with a camera...

Here's the Sparrow

And the male Pileated Woodpecker

Finally a pretty good shot of a grasshopper. I started trying to use the Macro setting on my camera, and had no idea how tedious it was to try and get a good shot of a grasshopper 4 inches away...first you have to manage to find one that will sit still when you get that close...this little guy is less than an inch long.

Nice pictures Billy.
Jeanette came home with pictures of a beaver's dam yesterday.
No animal but a good shot of his den.

I've tried to get some shots of a beaver dam at Handy Brake where I live, but it's 200 yards away or more and I can't get a clear one. For some reason the beavers disappeared a year ago when the lake dried up, it seems some farmer has been pumping water out of it, I don't know where they went, but I haven't seen a beaver there in over a year. I hate to see things like that happen, especially in a wildlife preserve, this winter around 2500-3000 ducks were there. Got some shots of Ring Neck Ducks, but also too far away and not very clear so I haven't posted any of them. Also spotted Blue Wing Teal, Mallards, American Widgeons, Pintails, one Canvasback, and Northern Shovelers. Last time I was there a couple of weeks ago some Pied Billed Grebes were there, American Coots and Wood Ducks usually live there. I spotted a female last year with six babies swimming behind her.

We had a beaver here, a couple of weeks ago. 1st one I've ever seen here. Now he's gone. The traffic on the (dirt) road we live on musta scared him off. The wife really wanted to see him (or her) I cant tell the diff in most wildlife, lol .
Super-Nice pix Man!! Like the one with the seed in the mouth!!

Thanks again Paul, I've been into photography for around 15 years and have two shoeboxes at the house full of 35mm shots. Most of the wildlife shots weren't great because I never had a telephoto lens that would really reach out there, but I got a ton of nice wildflower shots and people shots, landscapes, sunsets and a few good moon shots.

As I said I started using the Macro function on my camera this trip and did a lot of wildflower pics. The grasshopper is one example, and I got several nice shots of flowers that are smaller than a dime. I'll try to post some of those later, as well as some of the insects. Bumblebee on a thistle bloom, yellowjacket, honey bees, and all those were 4 inches away or so. The bird shots were all taken with the digital camera mounted on a spotting scope.

I thought you would like these, I didn't look back through the thread but I thought it was you that posted the pics of a few insects earlier...I have several other grasshopper shots, that one is one of the best I got so far.
