Perhaps you might look at your diet? I mean do you eat salty foods, things with Monosodium Glutamate in them to any extent? A singer I played with had some trouble like this too. It eventually turned out he was dehydrating himself during the day.
Probably doesn't help but I hope so?
Cheers.

Water water water water water.
And to be completely honest... drinking fluids isn't going to do ANYTHING for your vocal chords. Because your vocal chords are in your airway and not your asophogus. (sp?)
Drinking water helps relieve your throat, but if your throat hutrs you're not singing properly. Granted... having been a metal vocalist for many years, the throat can be part of your sound, but after I learned how to use my voice properly (and stay within my vocal range/abilities) the throat issues went away because I was singing the right way.
To each their own, but it's all about water. Mostly because drinking it helps put back those fluids your sweat out man! I love drinking beer when I'm playing live, but it dehydrates the sh*t out of me.
have fun!

^ yep. Water during the day before the gig. Lukewarm during. Hydrate your goods.
I can picture someone putting tea and lemon in room temp water and saying "Ahhhhhh that feels better".
ARE YOU SENILE? A drink of something wet, preferably non-alcoholic is about the best you see unless your toting a thermos like a kiddie at lunch.
Try chewing gum, seems to work fine unless you are preccupied about your proposed stardom or lack thereof.

One big thing that I saw someone mention that is really very important is practice, your voice is physically improved by practice and good breathing technique. It involves lots of muscles that can be in good shape or bad shape and that makes a huge difference to both your performance and your comfort when performing. Use your diaphragm to project, and warm up your throat muscles with some vocal exercises before you perform. That is really the only thing that will help long term. And Yes quit smoking, because that will really help!
Back in my opera days you laugh at the funny things some of the singers did to try and help their voices, but it really comes down to being in good physical "shape" and warming up well.

when i have a sore throat.. i use a micture of warm orange juice.. few drops of lemon juice in it.. then when thats warmed up, mix in about teaspoon and half of brown sugar. it helps me, kinda works as a soother... just dont drink it too often, so much citrus might be bad for ur teeth lols!!! hope u find something that works for u xx
I dunno the dash of lemon never works for me. It makes my mouth/throat dry quick. Try it out. You can never go wrong with water.

Can you imagine some singer during the break mixing up this potion?
(where's my scooby-do thermos?)

In my (much) younger days, my bass player's dad had a country band and they played little community centers in Mississippi where drinking wasn't allowed. If our band wasn't playing anywhere, he'd always want me to go sit in with his country band. I had a '62 Fender Deluxe with the open back. I'd put a bottle of vodka, a plastic Realemon, and a jar of maraschino cherries in there and carry it in. During breaks I'd buy a large Sprite on ice in a Styrofoam cup and go behind my amp and mix it. I probably looked like a mad scientist back there.

LMAO I think I'd have paid just to see that.

No flasks or owt here..I don't mix stuff at a show. I just bring large bottles of mineral water and one with the honey and lemon already in it from home incase it's needed.. isn't often. Mainly just the water.
Sorry, not enough skills to be able to drink or smoke at a show else we could have a disaster..
And I like to improvise, but I never want to HAVE TO improvise because I was half in the bag.
