Just recently discovered "Hornets" and really like them. Only negative is that they don't offer a nylon tipped pair yet. Hopefully soon. Other than that, they're great sticks.

Depending on music genre, I use 7A's for Jazz, 5B's for Rock & Blues. Both Vic Firth and Zildjian's feel great and are durable. I prefer nylon tips.

When practicing I usually use my VF Ralph Hardimon sticks. They're really fat marching sticks. Serious weight for some serious rudiment workouts.

When I play I either use the Buddy Rich or Steve Gadd (personal favorite) signatures, depending on the style and tone I'm looking for.

Otherwise, I'm a fan of all kinds of sticks. Anytime I come across something new or different I buy a pair to add to my collection and work them until I figure out what kind of style their tone and response work for.

I like the feel and response of the 5A, either Vic Firth or Vater. Mainly, I use the wood tip, but have several pairs of nylon tip for certain songs that need a real clean, bright cymbal tone.

For warm-up or if the song needs to be real loud, I'll use my Vater 3A.

I like Vic Firth 5AN or the longer 5AN extreme. Sometime I play with Vic Firth 7AN's for light Jazz stuff.

It's really amazing to me how much different the "extreme" sticks feel. They're only slightly longer (3/8"? or something like that) than the standard sticks. They make good practice sticks for building up speed.

I also keep a few pair of wood tip sticks around for a more traditional cymbal note on jazz tunes with an 1/8 note ride pattern throughout.

I've given sooo many sticks a try but I've been using Vater 1A's for years now. Personally I prefer the Vater finish over any other brand. Great grip and not much blistering. Before switching to 1A's I was using fusions, but I prefer the length and weight of the 1A's. I also use Vic Firth Ralph Hardimins when practicing on a pad... great for strength building. Not too fond of the finish, but after a few practice sessions they wear in (and the finish wears off!)

I use Vater or Vic Firth. Vater 5a Los Angeles model or Vic Firth 55a. I like wood tips. The Steve Gadd stick is nice on cymbals and the Pro Mark 808 is a great all around medium power stick, very fast. I used to use 5b's and may go back to them down the road.

Vic Firth SD1 General or other 2B to 5B sticks are mostly what I used in the 80's.

Then I found Regal Tip 4B nylon tip sticks (now discontinued since about 1997). They were once the longest and beefiest sticks I could find.

Then I tried Ahead sticks around 1994-95, and I was in heaven. No more heat and vibration. And my first pair lasted about 10 years, not sure how many sleeves I bought, though.

Now I am on my second pair of Tommy Lee signature Ahead sticks. I can't brag about them enough.

I LOVE PRO MARK NATURALS, 5B NYLON TIP, I FINE THE NATURALS DON`T SLIP OUT OF MY HANDS , CAUSE WHEN YOUR PALMS SWEAT IT ACTS LIKE A GRIP, AND NOTHING SOUNDS BETTER AS FOR AS A NICE PING ON A RIDE CYMBAL THAN A NYLON TIP

I use the Neil Peart "Snakes & Arrows" Edition Japanese Oak sticks. These sticks, have the perfect weight and "feel" for me. They are noticeably heavier than other sticks of similar diameter, and they are incredibly durable. I'm 6ft 7" and fairly heavy handed, and I've only broken 2 sticks while playing in the last year. They hold up VERY well to abusive playing, and just feel solid without having a huge diameter.
