Didn't he "win" after all. His career is sailing along. I mean I didn't know he lost.

True that...He actually might have been less famous if he won the show
Yep that's what happened with Reuben Studdard (winner) and Clay Aiken (runner up)
Ryan, check out his old band "Absent Element." It's heavy shyt. Trust me.
Look for "I Lie Awake" or "Seven 4."
Low-budget stuff, but killer ideas. Much better than what he's doing now tbh.

lol I am glad I could stir up so much trouble with a simple poll..
I personally hate AI. Simon is a facist.
Then again, what do I know?
Everybody likes a good Naumachia !

Instead of watching other musicians on TV, I practice my guitar or record or learn a new chord or edit tracks or play out or write lyrics or post songs or talk to musicians or set up tryouts or try a new rhythm or redo a set list or organize a rehearsal or work on new music or adjust the intonation on my bass or practice bass or change my strings or . . .

I'm not a fan of Idol either, but Simon is the only judge on that show who knows what he's talking about.
Well, okay - Randy knows what he's talking about most of the time, being a musician who has actually done it and toured, but he's not nearly as harsh a critic as Simon is.
Simon is a reality check.
I mean, it's pathetic how many people are simply delusional about their own ability to sing. Simon is the only voice of reason among a mob of delusional idiots.
He's the only person there who listens critically, not as a fanboy. And that's what is necessary. For anyone in any field, if you want to get better, you have to have honest, real criticism. You have to have critical analysis of your strengths and weaknesses to understand how to get better and get the most out of your particular skill set. Simon provides that.
The rest of the judges are just fluff.

I completely agree.
And to the people who hate the show - How bout you just don't watch it?
"I'd rather die than endure that noise"
Who said you had to endure it? Change the channel

Star Search gave us Sawyer Brown, one of the more interesting country bands. Unfortunately, AI doesn't give bands a chance, being the solo career builder they claim they are.
I don't like the "pop" music they use to gauge the acts' quality, & think that the acts themselves should have total control over their material. The act knows where he/she feels strongest, & should be allowed to show it, rather than the crapola they force ppl to perform.
Of course that would open up a whole nuther can of worms in which they'd hafta offer their awards in many different genres, but I think that would be a more honest view of someone's ability than the cookie-cutter approach they use now, as well as being more fair to the acts themselves.
For me, AI is simply corporate music, & as such, has no real value. Every season is a rehash of the last, with the internal "reality show" disputes, and the same old overplayed type of songs.
I wish one of these frikken shows would allow performers to stretch a bit on their own, in their own directions. It might give us a new genre, or at least a new act, rather than one that's molded from sone corporate standard of musical talent.

AI isn't about stretching out on their own. When Clay Aiken sang Lift Me Up, the judges shot him down so fast because it was something new. It didn't matter what the crowd thought and now that is one of his signature songs. I knew someone who auditioned for that show and she was getting so frustrated because the pre-judges were allowing people who sang like crap in and not allowing people who could sing go on if they didn't have a certain look. It's dribble. Or just a really long Ford commercial.
