So I just moved from Buffalo, NY to the New Orleans area (up on the North Shore, if you know the area). I used to play fiddle/mandolin in an Irish rock outfit back in Buffalo (The Pug Mahones), but since moving two months ago I haven't been able to tap into any real local music community. There's obviously plenty of music around here, but not many punk bands are sitting around thinking "You know what we really need? A violinist!" I do a bluegrass jam about once a week, but it's REALLY not my thing.

So how does a poor transplant like myself find a punk band that plays originals and wants to add some traditional flair to their music?

Try craigslist.org or backpage.com Over here in Houston we have a site called houstonbands.net this is one of the main resources for this area to hook up with other musicians even tho it is filled with want to be's Hopefully New Orleans has something similar. Our drummer is from there I'll ask him and get back to you.

hey LTR let me know how it goes there. I lived in Nawlan's once and am tinkering with the idea of moving back. There were a few good clubs there then, but I've been wondering how the music scene is there since the hurricane.

Good Luck with your search!

Thanks for the tips, guys. And Hayden, the music scene is still kickin' pretty hard down here. Lots of clubs. Even here in the suburbs it's pretty easy to find live music. I've experienced both amazing and awful stuff in my short time here, but it's definitely a robust scene.
