Kidd Rock? What the hell does he have to do with the Grammy's? I thought they were about MUSIC!

First time I ever heard him was that stupid rap thing he did about how much he loves his own name or somesuch & I knew he wouldn't make a difference in my life. Yet here I am, hating the lil ripoff jerkwad, & it proves to me that I am totally out of touch with the impaired mentality of mainstream USA. I find that I like it here, though.

Where's the good stuff hiding? Why is this creature in the spotlight, & how can he be replaced with someone with talent, drive, ambition & developed abilities? I'm beginning to believe that ppl are getting exactly what they deserve, considering the popularity of this guy & shows like The Biggest Loser & American Midol, not to mention Coolio's hairdos.

Is there anywhere left in this country where taste or culture is appreciated?

Im guess Im the weird guy.

I like Kidd Rock, I feel like he embraces the styles he likes and in a weird way may introduce younger audiences to his idols, like Skynyrd or ZZ Top.

Plus when I first heard on that Wam Diddy Diddy song or whatever it was, I saw a concert shot and his guitarist was playing a SUNN MODEL T amp. Seeing the SUNN logo even on the Fender Edition was enough to get me. All those early 70s band had backlines of those rigs. I still have an original SUNN MODEL T that I bought in 76 or 77.

I guess that not a real reason to like an artist.

But there again I guess im mainstream and hear his sh*t enough that its not bad. Plus women in my area love it, Im A Lowlife...................

I must have heard that 20 times last night alone.

Oh yeah Im on a jukebox st this club we play in. I go in there and play pool and one of my songs is playing on the jukebox. I thought that was pretty cool

Folks it's very simple/..

Whether we like it or not, there is now a contingent of rap fans out there.
A BIG CONTINGENT~~!!!!

Having said that, THEY are looking for someone to capture both of these audiences.

Kid Rock does both. And now he even covers classic Skynard, to try and boost his rock personna even more.

If the rap folks embrace him, that's half of it and if the rock people embrace him, that's probably the other half of his target demographic.

SAD TO SAY, but he's lining up the countryside..

I am happy for him that he is successful, but I HATE the fact he is killing some of my favorite southern rock.

If he starts rapping to BLACK BETTY, I may just have a nervous breakdown.. lol Or go on a shooting spree...

I guess I find consolation that Pam A. gave him Hepatitis C. (or maybe that's a rumor, idk)

Can you rap, JW? Would you even want to rap, JW?

Tough questions and more answered on the next edition of..."**** ***" lol

Capt

I have a certain spot on my heart that likes a little rap, not all of it but some of it.

I still love LL Cool Js Mama Said Knock You Out, we even play it on our pa at gigs. I like a lot of THCP material and thats basically white boy rap. Still like that old song Epic....u say u want it but you cant have it......

Im learning to appreciate lots of forms, I mean we play some Rage Against The Machine to me its just rap with rock guitars.

I dont like the big bootie stuff, maybe if they said big boobies!

I kinda like some of the spoken lyrics found in many styles of music.
To me RAP is no talent cRAP. Vulgar lyric glorifying the life of the cockroach. Know as the Baby Daddy Society.
I also like some of Kid Rock's music, The in your face style.
Then again much of this also is in praise of the cockroach lifestyle.
I often wonder how he gets all those legs into a pair of jeans.

I have honestly tried to listen to rap and hip-hop with an open mind. I just don't understand the lyrics. It's like a foreign language. Because there's no melody in it I don't view rap as music. IMO it simply isn't music. It's an art form of some kind, but it ISN'T music. We've had this argument before. So basically IMO I don't understand the lyrics and it's NOT music. It may be an art form of some kind. And obviously people have made beaucoup bucks performing it, but rap is simply not my cup of tea. I'm amazed it has lasted as long as it has. Obviously a lot of people like it. I've honestly tried but I just can't get into it.

Capt,

Love em or hate but Rages Bulls On Parade got us into club gig that I never would have understood. The Manager is just the biggest Rage fan on the planet, and when he heard us play that it sealed the deal.

We pull out Killing In The Name occasionally, these songs always get the younger contingent in the crowd rocking like crazy.

I think any genre can be take to far.

For me Im just a hack cover bar player thats always looking for songs that make some kind of impact with the audience.

Personally Im into EMO POLKA these days.

JW you play what you like.

As long as ya like it, I have no beef.

It's when you hate it and you play it anyway, that's fake.

Rage Against The Machine was the greatest rap-rock band of all time. I produced a CD in 1998 that was very similar in style. Check out "Two Minute Warning" on my profile (it's actually 2:36 but close enough).
