Hello SP, I understand and respect you.
You really represent a large majority of the musical public and thank god for your opinions and I am not being cynical here
In My Humble Opinion from the group of us that go out and play music on a somewhat professional level that have to care about what the audience wants to hear and what the band wants to play, because I believe in the very fragile balance of being a sell out or not being a sellout and having to deal with the very obscure line between the two as a cover band artist and an original artist that depends on the income as a primary or secondary income as opposed to the artist that just do it for fun and dealing with the prejudices between the two because one has the luxury and one does not I hope you see where I'm going with this.
In my opinion the two are not mutually exclusive we are in fact of like minds we are trying as hard as we can to be the best writers and musicians we can be, I also have a very short patience for 3 chord basic songs but on the other hand we all start playing music from the basics, I mean just because we are a little more trained and thus finicky about our preferences in the intellectual level of and the inflated ego's
of our art should we deny the general listening public a wonderful love ballade. Or any song that they pay with there time or money.
I am going to ask you good people to do a little soul searching and ask yourself and be honest (this is not a contest)
How many of you have played your music be it original or covers to;
100 people
1000 people
5000 people
10,000 people
50,000 people
