Did you say you got a gig where you're going to play all your ORIGINAL material? You mean you don't have to play a single cover tune? For real? And you're GETTING PAID? Where are you from? Hazard, Kentucky? Hell, I'm moving there TOMORROW. Finally an open-minded venue owner somewhere in the United States. Hopefully this spreads to Kansas City. Good luck!!

Thanks Bob!
nope, not a single one! it's like bathin in bourbon, then walkin to the bed on marshmallows.....

but I suggested I do just 1 or 2 per set because the audience is so fickle down her. but he's going for "the other crowd" so I hope not to hear...know any Skynyrd?

Hey, now that's a cool deal. You are a true working musician. Do you have any recording in the works? You might find that your audience is going to want to purchase some of your work. This is just the beginning.

Mary's right, of course. Make up a lil demo to sell ppl, & make sure they know it's all your stuff.

Best of luck with the gig. I've gotten quite a few gigs of this type over the years, but they were all once a month or so. I'd never do a twice a week thing unles it was in a resort area where the audience keeps changing all the time. I figger 3 hours or so of me, once a month, is about all anyone in their right mind could ever take.

hey thanks for the support everybody!
actually I've been doing this for 30 years, but due to a dope habit, and then 4 years of severe illness i was out of the scene for about 7 years. I've managed only 6 gigs in the 2 years since i recovered, but i did do a bit of writing. I played for 2 hours today and only played 3 songs twice. of course i remembered more songs as soon as i was done lol. after so many they just kinda get lost now n then! I have maybe 50 solo capable songs, of which maybe 25 sound good done solo and the rest passable..........
it sucks not having a band to perform em the way I'd like, but it sure feels good to be a "professional" again!

well I guess they sounded better than I thought...
he booked me for a dinner show 2 night's next week!
it's really a nice place that really does have the ole cliche; good food, good atmosphere, and good people. I think the place is going to do really well. the owner has vision and seems to be pretty savvy. I also got my buddys' band a gig there I think. keep your fingers crossed for em!

BTW here's the "Jamm Pudding" performers for this weeks sites to check em out if you want to.

Would make for interesting and insperational reading.

well Sans I'm one o those that thinks everything happens for a reason. A girl I know posted a bulletin on myspace that she was working there, and this thing & that thing was going on there. I asked her if they were going to have live entertainment and she said yeah, and they would love my stuff. So I went down the next day to talk to them. the owner asked me to return and give an audition. I told him that all of my material was original and he said.......awesome, can you do 2 hours? I said no problem... He said I was exactly what they were looking for.

It turns out that he had been shown the video from the Fraud in the sun.

apparently I'm now known around town as "that guy with gray hair that's playing at The Skybox" :D

Cool, Hayden the Gray. :D

Just more proof "Its who ya know"!

I love it!

Kind of funny, it,s not been long since I posed a question about the viability of an ORIGINAL MUSIC venue.

In the words of the sith lord,
I will be watching your carrer with great interest.
