. . . just relived it . . . it's been many, many years since I was pleasured by horns and pure Funk and Roll ! This is clearly one of Rocks top ten best Albums of all time. They were as psycedelic as a Blues Jazz Rock Funk Band could be. Kind of the caucasion Funkadelic (I have been meaning to find Magot Brain and One Nation Undder a Groove 2 of my all-time favoties trippin' Lps) . . . so to say. F.Y.E. discount (but not used ?) Love the guitar of Robert Lamm. He was an early tragedy of the band Chicago, shooting himself while cleaning a pistol. He almost rivals Hendrix on "Poem 58". Of course this Lp was released in 1969. And the band was sued by the City of Chicago fot the use of Transit Authority so the band agreed to drop the formentioned name and call themselves plainly Chicago, on the second Lp and thereafter. But, this first trippin' album is duh stuff ! And thankfully . . . keeps it's original name. The Chicago Transit Authority Rocks ! "Free Form Guitar" is more than even Jimi offered in recording . . . even live. "South California Purples" is a steady Rollin' Blues number that is heavily Rock and Roll.

Don't let the hits like "Does Anybody Really Know What Time It iIs?" and "Beginnings" . . . and "Questions 67 and 68". They are in their intirety here on the Lp. And "I'm a Man" written by Steve Winwood and James Miller is my favorite tune on the Lp.

Memory Lane Y'all ! Great Album for solid sounds that get you going. I hope some of the younger crowd might find this CD and download it and give it an honost and good listen. There may be some guitar work by Robert Lamm Y'all had never heard before.

Nice to hear some appreciation for Chicago...For the record, Terry Kath was the guitarist (Robert Lamm is the keyboardist and still with the band); also, Kath was basically playing russian roulette at the time. His imfamous last words were "Don't worry, it isn't loaded."
I recently watched an episode of "Morning Sessions" (I think), and a couple of the band members recalled playing shows with Hendrix, and how Jimi had remarked that "Their guitar player was better than he was."
Such a shame. Drugs and alcohol did as much to kill him as the gun did.

Yeah that's a classic I've been digging for nearly 40 years. But the second album is great as well and in many ways a more cohesive effort. I ended up seeing Chicago a few years ago from row 6, awesome!
