 Room full of fat sweaty guys
And one or two ugly chicks.
People in general are just stupid Ryan. For every ten upright guys there are ten thousand armchair morons.
It really surprises me how high the percentage of talented inteligent gentlemen are on this site.

Music is simply a glandular thing. When you're a teenager (I was once a teenage a LONG time ago) your glands develop at an extremely fast rate. This results in your having extremes in emotions. These manifest themselves in your having very STRONG opinions about all kinds of subjects, especially music. As far as anybody shoving their musical opinions down your throat understand this is a normal psychological phenomenon based on extreme glandular secretions. Some people develop their glands at different rates than other people. Ryan, the same people who are pissing you off now about ten to twenty years from now will have a totally different opinion on music and some or even most of them won't give a rat's ass about any kind of metal. In other words, this is a GLANDULAR PHASE and DO NOT TAKE IT PERSONALLY. I went through an extreme glandular shift about age 13 and was an extreme Black Sabbath addict, then at age 17 I became a Queen addict, then somebody turned me on to Roy Buchanan at age 20, and soon after that I was a blues addict. In other words my blues glands developed at a rather young age. Ryan, you've been going through a lot of other B.S. (hope your psychobitch girlfriend is a thing of your PAST). Don't let all this negativity get you down. Your wise old Bandmix friends are here to help any time. Just keep doing what you want to do and know that your glandular development is unique to you and have empathy for those who CANNOT SEEM TO CONTROL THEIR GLANDULAR INDUCED OPINIONATED B.S. Later...

fisherman bob, your comment has truth to it but i guess im a freak.

im 40 and often looking for a metal band to give me a damn song that i can rock out to before my head explodes. because of those prevalent vocals, i find it unlistenable.

(i discovered Killswitch Engage in 2007. quite a find, because they did have talent and their last singer was incredible).

im reminded of why i retain that anger and frustration and have the need to break something every holiday when im with family.

If you like Killswitch, you should also like All That Remains...They sound a lot like Killswitch, but they have a little more screaming vocals.

True, but he was still categorized as metal in the same camp with poison, cinderella, dokken, winger, and all the other pretty-boy's were, if nothing else, for the way they dressed.

Really water under the bridge at this point anyways.

I remember there being a lot of friction between the various groups of people who were fans of different genre's. Lots of fights at teen clubs. Ahhhhhh the good ol days....

Welcome to the club.
Same here. I even ended up in a band like that. I like metal, but that sort of metal now called "Hard Rock", "Glam" etc etc. and the term "Metal" drifted in to really dark 100% Drop-D screaming sort of a thing. Even Zakk is not metal for some people anymore.

As a guitarist I have this problem when talking to some people, I do not play heavy enough for them. They think that the heavier it is the better. Personally I believe that the wider your range of styles and influences the better, but that is just my own opinion. May I recommend introducing chainsaw as an instrument?, oh wait, it's been done!

May I remind that: Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, Ozzy, Accept and Scorpions were the ones who started "Heavy Metal" - not Slayer. But Slayer took it to the new depth of heaviness thus the fathers of "heavy metal" sound a lot lighter.

Do not listen to what anyone say, dig what you dig and be happy. I play "Hard rock" (the old school metal if you wish), the modern metal-heads call me names, but I do not play for them. I play for girls. - I like girls. ;)

Hell, there are SO many genres now...I can't even keep track of the metal genres much less tell anyone what to listen too LOL!
death, speed, black metal? Metal core, hard core? Nu metal, hair, glam , punk ,alternative, industrial, thrash, goth, metal?

Does every new band out need a new genre to fit in?

Then it seems like every song from a band needs to fit the band's genre...STUPID! Is "Nothing else matters" REALLY thrash?

I know what I like....even if I only like 1-2 songs from a particular band (i.e. Rammstien, or Manson) that doesn't mean I love that genre of music...just that song.

I may not be a fan of the cookie monster on meth vocals that are common in death metal (or is that black...no...metalcore? aww F$#@ it!) but if that's your thing, have at it. But at the same time, don't tell me I need to listen to the latest band who's lead singer sounds like he gargles Draino!...you WILL get my opinion of his singing. LOL

It is immature to stick your self in to a genre and always make sure you are strictly adhere to it. (Oh we can't do this because it is lighter then Slayer, Oh we can't do this because it's heavier then Mesa) This is rather teenager point of view.

One can't be unique if one watches the genre before music he/she can and want to perform. And if one is not unique one is not noticed and lost in the noise of passing cliches.

I seriously doubt that world known artists got there because they wanted to sound exactly as the guy next door only heavier (or whatever).

Iron Maiden or Black Sabbath (fathers of metal) did NOT sit down and figured: "we are going to be a new style and we will call it heavy metal..." They plaid different stuff when Britain was in a wave or Punk Rock (Sex Pistols etc). They have created their own music and critics called it "heavy metal" then came the others. While those who were trying to be another Sex Pistols are gone from history.

Do what you like, those who like what you do - matter, others - do not. Leave the genre for half witted critics to decide.

QFT to this, and Ryan Strain's first post. Bandmix should troll their forums lol

I'm the same way, or I try to be. While I don't carry the same affections for much of the metal people listen to these days, I do know that it's stupid to tell people what to listen to. I get the same crap all the time.

LOL

HELL YEA JR!

I don't like the music you like, but I will defend your right to like what you do to the death.

f**k the little wimps who are trying to make you like a little bit of what they like. That's like that crazy girlfriend of yours blind folding you and making you take a bite of a turd, trying to get you to say you liked it because you couldn't see it was a turd. lol

I get that too. I just calmly look at them and tell them slowly but firmly, "THAT MUSIC SUCKS". They get all purple and screw faced..
