8K a year for property taxes? How many people live in your state? Is your state going broke? Is your state's infrastructure crumbling? WHERE IS ALL THE MONEY DISAPPEARING TO? WHO'S RIPPING US OFF? By the way your blues song is pretty good. I agree the vocals need to dried off a lot. I never have liked reverb on vocals. Makes people sound like they're singing at the end of a big tunnel, not natural sounding vocals. Later...

8 $K a year in property taxes is avarage in New Jersey, in some counties like Bergen and Sussex counties propery taxes go up betweeb $12 and $14K ayear all in the name of maintening the triple "A" status of the state.

Bob the population in Jersey is less then 9 million, this state like any other runs on a badget deficit, where does the money go? good question my guess is it goes between waist, corruption, patronage, chronism and down right incompetence in financial managment, I'll give you an example, we have two toll highways here called Turnpike and Parkway each producing roughly $100 million a year, this money is allocated for road maintenance and up grades, well only one third of toll revenues goes for road maintenance the other two thirds goes toward salaries, benefit retirement plans and health care insurance for these toll roads employees which number couple thousand, not a bad deal for these guys, splitting amongst themselves over $70 million every year, of course to get a job with with the Turnpike or Parkway one has to be a politician chrony ready to kiss ass any time he or she is called upon.

Sorry to digress, thanks for your comments on the blues, the vox with the reverb is due to one of those cases of making it betterbut it backfired on me, the worst part is that when I got done singing it I thought it was pretty good, man was I wrong, that's why the members of Band mix are so useful, they have a way yank you out of one's dillutional state and slap you back into reality.

Be well

The hardest part about playing bass on a slow song is having to hold EVERYONE back. Our singer rushes & the drummer follows...the guitarist rushes a lick & the drummer follows. I know he's trying to keep it sounding tight, but I hafta stand there & play late until they drop back to the right tempo, & it drives me buggy sometimes. Then, of course there's the times that I will rush something, trying to give it more energy...they bitch about it, but they always hafta follow...heh heh heh

Sometimes it's good to be the bass guy. *Screams in his "Master of the Universe" voice - "I HAVE THE POWER!!!!"*

The hardest part about playing any blues is K.I.S.S., KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID. Most every non-blues musician I've ever played with (especially drummers) want to play AS BUSY as possible. I got news for you. IT DOESN'T WORK! The nuances of the leads and vocals GET LOST IF EVERYBODY IS TOO BUSY ON THEIR INSTRUMENTS. Whoever is taking the leads can play as busy as they want IF the rest of the band is SIMPLE. That's the key to blues. When the singer is singing, PLAY SIMPLE. When the guitarist or any other instrument is doing a lead, PLAY SIMPLE. That's all there is to it to sound good in the blues. It's NOT rocket science. Just my two cents after 28 years in blues bands. Later...

I agree with Bob concerning simple solid bass playin' in doin' the blues.
The most important trait for blues drumming, however, in my humble, Howlin' opinion, is the ability to lay down a solid "shuffle" beat. If your a blues player, and your drummer can't do it, or don't know what your talkin' about, send him or her back to their old rock or country band, and get back on BandMix, lookin' for!
HJ

P.S If you want to hear an example of master blues shuffle drumming, listen to Sam Lay! He's the man!

Very well stated, this rule should apply to music in general it's not the single that makes a song but the total of individuals part.

Lol Philby I can picture you making the point of "I HAVE THE POWER!!!!"*
By cranking up your amp to 11 and plucking an open E string making rattle every glass and bottles in the joint analong with the snare drum.

Sounds pretty sweet. The reverb on the vocals is more than a bit overdone, but I think that's been mentioned several times prior to this post. I like the guitar work, too.

Thanks Grant Daniels, I checked out your tunes, I must say you have a voice rich with tones well suited for your genre.

With a voice like that you might be one song away from a hit on the country chart.

Be well.
