With all them thar influences, don't it get kinda boring just playing Radiohead??? Personally, Radiohead really don't blow wind up my skivvies...I don't get the fanatacism with Radiohead??

I can only speak for myself about the fascination with Radiohead, but I'd rather not. It's kinda like describing why I like chocolate, or steak. These foods just taste really good to me, and Radiohead sounds really good to me.

I hear common threads linking all (or most) of those influences to Radiohead, and to each other. It's more of an emotional connection than an intellectual one, so talking about it can be tedious. The diversity of the influences might reflect the diversity of Radiohead's out-put, which might also help explain the fascination w/ Radiohead in the rest of the world. Nearly every song strikes me as being unique on its own terms, as does every album (including and post-OK Computer, at least). Compositionally, Radiohead are risk-takers, and I like this. Rather than relying on formula and regurgitating old material, they seem to grow and evolve with every song and every album.

In a shell of nuts, I don't perceive a cookie-cutter approach to their songwriting or their albums. Everything seems to stand on it's own. Plus, they're prolific. So if you like them (as many seem to), they give you plenty of stuff to enjoy.

Very informative... OK.... gotcha.... Still... I guess because I'm very picky about the guitarists in bands like, Ynngwie, Vai, Satriani, Halen, etc... and Radiohead just don't do it for me... Their guitarist is amazingly boring for me...

Yeah, Radiohead's music is definitely not an exercise in skill or ability, although it's far from being easy to play. They are musicians who I think of as composers; not as athletes who can run the fastest and throw the longest. With Vai, Satch, etc., it seems to me to be much more about what they can technically pull off on their instrument (their dexterity, stamina, strength, etc.) than about capturing something essential on a musical & emotional level. Again, that's just my 2 cents. There's a place for everything in this world...hopefully!

Comparing Radiohead (or their guitarists) to those you listed above is sort of like comparing Football to flowers. They're just two distinctly different animals.

Well said. Good argument and I agree.. kinda. They're different, but not the only or the first to do that kinda music. Good luck.

For me personally, it's not about whose music I give attention to. It's about doing what doing what I love, loving what I do, and working to making a living at it so I can avoid having to take a day job. I'm lucky enough to play in enough different bands to keep me content and, actually, I get more sick of playing Brick House, etc., than anything by Radiohead. In fact, one of the main reasons I put this group together a year ago was so I could play music that was both challenging and enjoyable to play. Radiohead just happens to fit that bill currently. About six years ago, it was Steely Dan. Today, I'm happier with what I'm doing than I was a year ago. Other people do not have to be content with what I'm doing, and I wouldn't expect them to do what I'm doing either. To each their own, hopefully.

Ok, that's great. We don't play "High & Dry" (or "Creep" for that matter, and probably never will). The closest we come to that kind of tune is "Fake Plastic Trees." Our focus is on the more challenging material (our current songlist is below). Also, we prefer not to be labeled as a "tribute band" - if possible - because we do experimental things with the arrangements, lots of improvisation, and take more of a spontaneous approach to the songs and to our shows. If someone wants to call us a tribute band though, that's fine. It's just another label. As long as people come out to hear us play and enjoy their evening, we've done our job.

Isn't one of the criteria for being a "tribute band" that the band either dresses up or attempts to look like the band they're paying "tribute" to? We certainly don't do that! Isn't another criteria that a "tribute band" plays exactly what is on the original recordings, note-for-note, in an attempt to "sound just like" the band they're, uh, "tributing"? We don't do that either!

Last point (hopefully, heh): My sources in the legal department say we are technically a "reverence band." Google it.

Nah.... Subject still open.... If you came in my neck-o-the woods and billed yourself as a band that played "Radiohead" You would be billed in the rags and on the marqee as a Radiohead Tribute band! Again nothing wrong with that... you would attract Radiohead fans from my area and they would ask their friends if they wanted to go see a Radiohead tribute band... which means that you are not really Radiohead but are playing Radioheads songs!

Just so we're clear here you come across as not only saying "I don't want to talk about it" but also "I don't want to hear about it anymore" Yeah, that's kind of rude. We'll stop when we feel like it. And you started it. Like Crip is saying. Own it, embrace it., don't deny it. Your attitude regarding brick house is understandable but your attitude regarding only wanting to play technically challinging stuff if bordering on snooty or elitist. It reminds me of a band I was in where a bass player had decent technical ability and was bored with a minimalist part of a song. He was wanting to walk a bassline when one note every 2 seconds was beautiful and perfect. I got a little frustrated and said "don't entertain your hands, entertain MY ears". It was kind of a slap, but he got it right away. He said "you know Paul, you're right". I mean playing stuff that is challenging is good for you, but playing stuff that sounds good is more noble. Yes I understand that the challenging stuff sounds the best to you. I'm just saying that in my opinion high and dry is the best song they did. To leave it out seems arrogant to me and it disrespects an aspect of the band and probably some of the fans too.
