Oh I get it! You were speaking in JAZZ!

Music has definition. There are many who have taken it beyond the norm - Philip Glass, Gentle Giant, Miles Davis, etc, and they have each had their cult followings.

I, too, get tired of being able to predict the next note, the next phrase, when I hear something supposedly new.

World beat stuff embraces the 1/4 tones & droney beats that many of us in the west find so irritating, as a rule.

Time changes, even for a single measure, have been explored since before "A Taste Of Honey" was recorded & made popular. There was much uproar from the "purists" at the time for this blatant disregard for the "rules of music."

New "instruments" from the theramin to drywall buckets to the PVC pipes played with flip flops (the "floppafone!") have been explored. Voice as a percussion instrument is popular at the moment.

"New age tapes" & "nature sounds" like whale song have been distributed as "music."

Where next would YOU take it? Will you call this new form "music" or "entertaining sounds?"

I really don't want you to damage the way I think. I'd rather my thought processes be expanded & improved upon, myself, but if you think your music will damage my thinking, I'll take that challenge & listen, as long as it doesn't irritate me too much.

Where is it? I only hope that it makes more sense to me than your original post!

That's what I always say when I get caught, "It was only experimentation." lol

Funny thing, though. When we musicians ARE faced with something entirely "new," the 1st thing we do is pick it apart, & try to find what does or doesn't make it work, as a rule. The next step is usually to either disregard it as "true" or even "new" music, or, more rarely, embrace it as the next big thing.

When it comes to the subject of music, I think you'll find that average musicians & critics are usually rather conservative about it.

With that being said, I'm ready for your stuff. Hit me with your best sh*t!

Ooops...damn, that "i" is too close to the "o" on my keypad. I MEANT to typerate "Hit me with your best shot!" a la Pat Benatar.

See, if I'd made that same mistake twice, I'd have called it "jazz."

fdt - After listening to your 1st track, I gotta tell you that I didn't really hear anything particularly ground-breaking, like your post would have me expect. That isn't to say that I don't like some of what I've heard. I like the premise. I like the changes that occured around 1:30, but I didn't like the ones at around 4:00. It's too long by far, & I think it might be more interesting if you changed the tone &/or the key here &/or there in this long drawn-out piece. After sitting through this one, I really don't have the time or the interest to listen to the rest, for fear that they, too, will be epic noodlings. I find it best to stick within certain time limits to keep from losing ppl with short attention spans like my own.

You have some creativity, for sure. You need to polish up your chops a bit, but that will come with experience. You also may need some band-members to rein in some of your ideas, or at least help you cut out the chaff where it needs to be done. You have very good timing, & a good basic approach to guitar that I hope to hear more of, in shorter bursts, perhaps later, as you develop your talents into killer skills.

I hope you don't think of this post as a slam, because I think you have some great potential & some obvious talent. I just would like to see you develop it a bit more in certain areas.

Best of luck in finding your band-mates.
