Aint Yo Mama, invaded a new territory this friday night. Jackson TN, we played Tequilla Joes, one of the largest clubs in the region. We had to play in the middle of a 3 band deal, something we hardly ever do. We were second, the 3rd band was from Nashville TN. Before we went on the guys in the last band were talking to me and I asked if they wanted us to go easy on them. They looked at me funny, cause our band is a good deal older than the other groups, they think we are relics or something.

After we played Bulls On Parade the audience was going wild, and the other bands were wondering what had hit them. I got on the mic and said You folks didnt know that some old muther******s could rock did ya? he audience was eating out of our hands.

We got to play from 10:30 til 12:30 so we just played one long hard set, it felt great. The downer of the night was that the monitors were going on and off almost every song. I had a pissy bitch fit and had the soundman almost in tears. At first I thought my amp was blowing up. I dont play that loud anymore, I do what you should do and let the system do the work. I run a power soak on my amp. It sounded at first like the amp was cutting out. Our drummer was behnd the back line and was having a time hearing what was going on. We really struggled and the guy never figured it out and I gave him a lot of hell for it.

The guy that booked us said I was the cockiest musician he had ever met, he then said he liked that. Before our set was over the booking people for 2 other clubs in town were there listening. I havent booked anything else yet, but things look good for this new town for us.

We are gradually spreading to new areas. One downer was our usual faithful didnt make the trip. We are used to a steady draw of 165 people so it was letdown, we only brought about 40 with us for this gig. The guy that booked us was happy, but I was a little down over that. In our pictures you see the beads we give away at every gig. Well it finally happened the women started earning them the old fashioned way. I included the only picture that wouldnt get sensored just for evidence. I hope everyones weekends are going good. We only played friday night this weekend so Im home on sat night for the first time in a long time.

Paul, this place has been a lot of names thru the years. When I first starting going out in Jackson it was called the Watering Hole, Then it was Tremors. Its just one of those places, double room club with a disco on one side and a band room on the other side.

I used to sit in on Thursday nights at the Ramada Inn lounge with a talented guy named Ronnie Twisdale, this would have been mid to late 80s. Thats really the only places Ive ever played in Jackson til last night.

Its a great music town, most of the clubs charge 10 dollars cover whereas most places we play charge $5, so there is more entertainment money being spent up there.

Yessir I remember tremors. I had a great night of pool there IIRC. I was owning the table. My friends were getting up one after the other paying for the games and I kept winning. These 3 tall GQ looking guys were watching and talking about it. One put his money down to get me on next game. He racked, I broke and sunk 2 on the break. Then I ran every ball up to the eight then I choked and missed the eight ball. He got up on his turn and sank every ball, then scratched as he sank the eight ball! A two turn gaame where every ball was gone!! We just shook hands in mutual respect and for the rest of the night every time we saw each other we pointed and shook our heads yes to each other. Nice memory. :D

Yeah Andragon, I can nail Morello. His stuff isnt that hard. The picture of me with my hands over the pickups is the solo on Bulls On Parade. I turn off the neck pickup and use the toggle switch like an on/off switch and scratch over the rear pickup to get the scratch noise. Hes really a simple guitar player and plays some mean riffs. We use to play Killing In The Name, but I quit using my Whammy pedal cause its just to noisy. I can nail that solo also. No biggie, its only rock n roll man, dont overthink this stuff, it'll drive you crazy!

Yeah Mike G, you know the drill.

Ive learned that to get any attention you have to be way over the top. Our crowd hits us with shots all night. You can see the dribble down the front of the pink shirt. Ive learned to just pour those shots on my chest and just drink a little of it. The crowd goes crazy and they think Im a party animal. Ive shared on here before our target audience is 25-50 yr old women. If we can get them out the guys follow, its a simple philosophy but its working for us.

Thanks for the comments and get out there and rock, quit makin excuses, the world is your oyster, so go get some pearls............

Andragon,

Morello is one of the most basic guitarist to cover for me, SOme of his solos require certain pedals to pull off, but Im going to disagree with you on this one, after working thru some Dream Theatre,Satch and Vai, his stuffs pretty easy to me.

Maybe hes tough for you but not to me, A lot of his riffs remind me of Led Zep and since I have played about 60% of Zeps songs thru the years I guess it makes Morellos basic riffs feel easy to me. I think its like a lot of music all attitude anyway. You can make something as hard or easy as you want.

haha not easy or difficult for me, since I'm not a guitarist.
But yea, I know others who learned Canon Rock and whatnot in no time with no real difficulty. It's all bout how your ears and fingers are co-ordinated.

Actually Ryan our singer Kevin has way better moves than me. Ha Ha

You could take lessons from him. He breaks something every gig. He uses a wireless and he is off the stage more than he is on. I have a hard time keeping up!

Id rather see gig pictures than a practice. Hell what is practice. We just agree in our band to play a song and then we play it live in front of people. Practice is for Kids gigging is for real.

One gig to me is worth a 1000 practices, you really dont know who you are playing with until youget the pressure of performing in front of a crowd. I love it, I was built for this sh*t, some people arent and the only way to find out is to get in front of someone.

So get out there and just do it
