HEAVY metal is comin back with old bands (saxon, amored saint, judas priest, iron maiden) and new bands (dragonforce, dream evil, a7x) cuttin new albums. their is gonna be a major renaissance for the original metal scene, no more of this black/gore/death/raver metal sh*t with the screaming and growling (save that s**t 4 the hardcore/screamo scene).

Although I think screaming and growling does have its place in modern metal, my vision includes vocals and lyrics you can understand.

Well, I agree with Jimmy. I really don't mind growling and screaming. Just not the whole damn song and sometimes it's like listening to Eddie Vedder singing (really hard to make the words out 8) )

Come back?when the f**k did metal leave!!??....well the authenticity of what it once was is gone, it simply just evolved like everything else on this twisted living sphere called earth. 8)

I can't imagine rock existing without metal. Believe-it-or-not...I can't believe 21st century music, even contemporary classical, exisiting without metal.

jimmydanger wrote:It depends on the derivation of metal you're talking about...the neo-classical players such as Malmsteen et al definitely use the scales, arpeggios and other "tricks" of classical music, especially the baroque. Death metal tends not to use those things, while older metal such as Judas Priest use the scales but also use blues, etc. Most of the monster players can do any riff that a classically trained musician can do (Van Halen was classically trained and played violin and piano).

I just gotta post this.

As long as there's teenagers there will be metal. As soon as I turned thirteen (a long time ago) I became obsessed with Black Sabbath and anything that was considered metal back then. I developed my blues glands at an early age and became a blues musician in my early twenties, but I still have a sincere appreciation for the genre which will NEVER go away as long as there are teenagers with developing glands. Later...

metal is certainly not dead, or will it ever be.
the heavier the better I say. There is a band "The Famine" from Texas that in my mind is as metal as it gets. Its a newer sound that really doesn't care about mainstream radio play or anything commercial. Bringing back some metal sounds from the likes of Pantera and other trademark acts, metal is about playing what you love, not trying to sell out a venue. When a metal act attracts a crowd one of two things happened... 1, they sold out and are playing to make a buck from those stupid label reps. that think they know what people want to listen to... or 2, they are playing something so pure and new, no one can walk by without investigating further.

I don't know, I just think metal in some form is in all of us. Its about breaking the preconceived ideas of the world into tiny bits, and turning worlds upside down. Its about not caring about what others think and fighting for the truth. I think Jesus was about as metal as we'll ever see.

Metal to me was all about releasing the pent-up energy I had as a teenager. It's all about playing your instrument with maximum force and getting the maximum amount of air to move out of your speakers. It's an expression of angst and anger and rebellion and hitting people over the head with your opinions. It's the perfect genre of music for people with all kinds of ideas and emotions they have bottled up inside and want to release. Don't worry about the demise of metal. Metal will be around for many decades to come. Later...

Metal sounds good mixed with anything. Is Korn metal? They are going to be working with a rapper ( Jay Zee me thinks ). I look forward to that. Blues sparked rock in the first place and rock sparked metal. Disco scares me, however. Lots of classical music can easily enter the sandman.

What if Holst composed Stairway to Heaven? It might sound a tad like this:

metal is really hard one to pin down the styles that were once cutting edge and top of the line 15 - 20 years ago, are perceived as old school when a new band comes along in the same styles, its musicians music that's something we all agree...why? that's a question that kind of intrigues me what made the "heavy metal" of yesteryear attractive to mainstream and could fill arena's and yet the modern derivative hardly gets recognition, well that's probably got a lot to do with the fact that every day there are at least 15 new groups of people getting together in the genre

One thing metal requires imagination and it is always being reinvented. Metal is as individual as fingerprints.I would not have it any other funky way.
