hey little tim, i am a drummer and i no two or three more. all i wanna no is what kind of effects pedal to get(now that ive kinda tought myself how to play thanx to all of the replys) is a krybaby any good or is a wah better, like a jimi hendrix type deal?

Been playing bass over 25 years. I am totally self taught. I don't know anything about theory, but I can hang with some pretty advanced players. I learn songs by patterns. Certain patterns just seem to work well on certain tunes. It's also extremely important to play bass with a metronomic drummer. A good solid drummer will make even a mediocre bass player sound good, a bad drummer will make a good bass player sound like crap. The more you play (and practice as often as you can) the more patterns you will learn, and you'll begin to almost immediately play something that works. Concentrate also on playing patterns where the notes are very close together. The further you have to move your hand up and down the neck, the more chance you'll have of hitting the wrong notes. Don't try and be a lead bass player to start, that's what the guitarists and keyboard players are getting paid for. Try and stay with the lower notes for now. I hear bass players who play high notes and it DOES NOT WORK on a lot of songs. Keep it simple and solid, and stay right with your drummer (hopefully keep perfect time). Also to start, play the strings with your fingers, don't use a pick. Pick bass players often sound too trebly, clicky. You want your bass to sound smooth and powerful. My son is also trying to play bass. I am an old lead guitar rocker myself, but I can also play bass. My advise to him was to concetrate more on his finger positioning to not get that rattling sound, learn his scales and then play the style he liked best or if possible slowly learn a little bit of all of them. bass just cuz it has four strings or 5 dosnt mean its hard ull catch on lear the right finger positions so u dont learn bad habits and end up with carpletunnel or somthing. wear your bass where its comfterbly not so it looks kewl member lower the harder to play but u look kewler the higer the easier but u look liek somone from the betals lol stick to wat u like playinfg not wat everyone els is lear the basic scales

the bottom is the E string or the lowest one the top is the G string *giggles* or the higest thats all

ok, thanx guys. me and my buddy( a drummer) just recently rote and played a song and it sounds good. it has a very, i duno, linear tune, u no, same thing kinda over and over but hck it sounds pretty good so i like it. we cant find a singer so were gonna go for an instrumental instead of all vocal sound. any good bass lines for a beggining band? like the one in with or without you by U2. any replies welcome
