my teenager was listening to her jams at like a quarter volume. though i didn't like the song, i went ahead and showed her how to crank it up. she turned it back down and i was like, "what the hell's wrong with you?! are you sure your a teenager?!" what's wrong with these kids?

Damn this was an interesting thread , only because I'm old too

I just turned 49 , met up with Miranda Lambert for my birthday a few days ago. I play guitar in a southern rock band called Rambler whose debut CD features Artimus Pyle of Lynyrd Skynyrd (another old guy)www.myspace.com/Rambler or www.RamblerGang.com

I didn't get endorsed until I was 45 , now I'm endorsed by Schecter Guitars , Knucklehead Strings , Guitar Star Wear and working on an amp company now as well.

I also play guitar in a Gothic /Horror/Industrial band which happens to be always ranked as one of the top 3 Gothic bands in Florida according to Myspace stats. www.Myspace.com/ShatteredGlassPlayground

Image is a lot , I dress basicly the same in both bands and kind of cross promote ,(I didn't say cross-dress wise -ass hehe) I wear a little make up for the goth band but hey , Elvis wore make up and so did Sinatra as well as Ozzy and Manson who still do. I'm lucky to still be "in the game" considering the competition is half my age .

I also date a girl almost 30 yrs younger than me , been with her for like 2 years now.

I get told by a lot of younger guys that I am washed up , a has been , a wanna be , a nobody , pathetic , creepy etc etc ... funny thing is , the only guys telling me that have girlfriends into one or both of my bands......

Ok so yeah , I am old , maybe I am washed up , maybe I am a has been , I certainly wanna be SOMETHING , I may even be pathetic and creepy but until I actually BELIEVE that I am one , some , or all of those things , well , I AM NOT ANY OF THEM! Maybe eventually but just not yet =)

I can out run , out fight , out work , and out phuck 80% of the kids half my age , I prove it on a daily basis. Until my back goes out , I'm in this game for the duration. For the money? Nah , what money really? I enjoy playing and being a part of something bigger than me , and that's just , MUSIC.... anyway....

God Bless Ya'll ! If ya believe in God that is , if not ... Good luck with uh , ya know .... stuff

MrPierce - are you "Smiling Bob" in disguise, or advertising for the Hair Club For Men or Viagra?

You go, boy! It's good to see an "older guy" doing it & doing it well.

I've spent the last week out-lifting & out-working a bunch of scrawny young guys with concrete board, & I'm feeling pretty old today.

I will be more ancient than an ancient thing on Tuesday but I'm still havin' a good time. In fact apart from some areas that aren't so good (My man is not very well at the mo) I'm having a better time than I have ever done musically anyway :P

If you are losing your hair, maybe think about getting plugs, wearing a wig, you know, give a little to get a little. I hate that music has become such a popularity and beauty contest

I flaunt it. I've been bald for over 20 years, lost my hair early, so I joke about it, wear crazy wigs, silly hats, whatever I can do to make light of it. I have several baseball caps with fake hair velcroed to the back in pink, purple, etc, a couple of "cat in the hat" hats, and a few regular hats to wear onstage and I get a lot of laughs when I don one. Also managed to scarf a jester hat a while back, complete with spikes sticking out and little bells, yellow and green.

When I wear one of these I usually yank it off at the end of the song, the main point being to let people know I'm not hiding the bald head with all the hats, it actually draws attention to it. I also never show up in faded jeans and a sloppy t-shirt. I'm a performer, I prefer to dress accordingly.

Musically, I'd much rather do originals than covers, unfortunately I've never been able to hook up with a band that is into seriously working on original material. I'm not much of a writer, but I do have a couple up my sleeve, and have been working on a couple of new ones lately. Yeah I'm over 50 and still writing...then again so are Tom Petty, Ian Anderson, David Gilmour, Joe Walsh, Robert Plant and so on...I'm just not as prolific (or popular) as they are. Two good tunes a year is a really good year for me...

Someone said the younger guys don't want some old bald fart around...Two metal bands, both comprised of guys 20 years younger than me, have tried to hire me as lead guitarist. Bald head and all. I declined both because metal just isn't my thing. The auditions only happened at all because both claimed to be "hard rock" bands, then at audition time turned out to be metal. One was an original band with a screaming "singer" who I would have kicked out after the second song, the other was covering Judas Priest, Cinderella, Dokken, that kind of thing. So I had to say to both, sorry guys, not my cup of tea.

Interesting incident with the original band though, the rhythm guitar player had a Marshall full stack, (100 watter I think) kept turning it up to try and drown out my Peavey MX and 1x12 cab since it didn't look like much. After he finally had it maxed and I was still playing clean leads just for fun, he gave me this amazed look after a song and said "what the hell do you have in that amp?" I grinned and just told him it was 130 watts of Peavey tube amp, right off the shelf...
