Does anyone know where to get backing tracks? I'm looking for tracks without vocals or guitar, I'm tring to do the one man band thing and i'm not smart enough to get into MIDI.
Use some looping software, like Sony Acid, or Magix software.
Looping software, lets you lay out sample tracks on a timeline, like drums, bass piano, synth, even vocal backing tracks. It seperates everything by keys usually, so that you have plenty of tracks to play with in different keys. You can also change the key on some of these software programs.
In any event, you find a beat, lick, whatever, that you like and basically just "paint" them onto the timeline. You can add changes and breaks, drum solos, whatever. You can literally create a song from scratch using just your computer. It is multi-track and most record audio as well, so you can play or sing over your tracks, and then mix them down to 2 tracks for CD.
Go to Sony website and download "Acid Xpress" which is a free version of their software. You can try it out and see how it works for you. BTW, there are literally thousands of free "loops" to be found on the internet as well as many for purchase of course, in various genres.
Even though I play guitar and keyboard, I have played around with Sony Acid and the Magix program, and they are alot of fun. The Magix even lets you create a video for your song and export it in various formats.
Try it out.
