I just uploaded another Jazz song, for those who are interested.
.
"Blue Rabbit Jazz."
.
. . . style is 'Cool Jazz.'
But after working with it for a couple hours, I lost all perspective on balances and volume levels. Wasn't even sure of the rhythm anymore, either . . .
Usually I wait 48 hours and listen again, but maybe someone here can save me that 2 day waiting period . . .
.
Anyone want to clue me in on this mix?

Jazz styles being one of my "likes" I really enjoyed that tune.
Used to enjoy going to the jazz clubs in New Orleans & Slidel when I worked out on the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Dont think I would be the one to comment on the compilation so I'll just say thanks for the music. :D

Thanks, Sans.
Im' not really into New Orleans Jazz - but that's only one style of jazz out of 100 . . . cool jazz, hot jazz, New Orleans jazz, abstruse jazz, structured jazz, unstructure jazz, big band jazz, 'guitar' jazz, new age jazz . . . I couldn't begin to name them . . .
There are probably as many 'flavors' of Jazz as there are flavors of wine . . . some wine I like, some I don't . . .
.
Anyway, it's 24 hours later, and now I can hear that the cymbals are too soft. Also, now I can hear a little clash between the rhythms of the bass and the guitar in the first 1/3 of the song.
.
So, if no one else cares to comment, then I'll delete the song in about 24 hours, and figure out how I should change it . . .

I agree that the drums & cymbals are a little light. The bass might be just a tad hot, but as a bass player I think that's perfectly alright.

Nice, sneaky, yet happy lil tune.

Hey, Alan...you got any "world beat jazz?" Some Latin or Carribean flavored jazz would be cool.

'Sneaky and happy eh?"
. . .odd . . .
:)
But - it's sure a fun song to play around with . . .
.
As for other styles - almost all of my songs are crossovers; but I have about 10 songs that would probably be categorized as 'Jazz.'
I have one that'd probably come under the heading of 'Latin jazz.'
And, maybe 1 - 2 under the heading of "world jazz" . . . not sure.
.
Whatever kind of Jazz I do, my jazz songs have a song stucture - that is - no free-form "weird' jazz. I avoid that style because I'd lose a major portion of my audience.
.
Glad you liked it, anyway.
I'll probably re-do it next week some time. Besides re-mixing it, I wanted to make the rhythms tighter, so I'll probably re-record the bass, guitar, or both . . .

I remixed the song a little while ago. Now the bass isn't so up front, and the percussion is louder.
.
I was going to re-do either the bass or the guitar on one part, because I thought the rhythms might've clashed, in one part of the song.
But after listening to it again, I left it as it was. With the louder percussion, it seems that the rhythms are working off of one another now . . .

Had not really noticed it before but the percussion level works good as you stated Alan. To me that really is a focal point of the types of Jazz I,ve been exposed to.

Hmmm . . . good point.
The focal point of this song was the bass; but you're probably right.
.
I suspect that by this time next year the focal point will be the woman singing it.
And no, I haven't found her yet, but I will . . .

It does sound much better. I think the percussion could come up even a tad more, actually.

I like it, Alan.

Perhaps I should have said accent in leu of focal point. But I think you understood my point just the same. Yes It's good stuff.
Be sure you enlighten us when she's ready to sing it for you :D

I just wasted several hours at another open mike looking for her . . .
Crap; where do you find good female vocals? That is - somone who's not just screaming heavy metal, or just yelling out rock songs . . .
. . . someone who hits the notes right on (not just 'close').
Where are the singers?
The real singers?
.
But - I'm glad you guys seem to like the song, anyway.
I know I'm not good enough to sing it . . . but I will find someone . . .
.
I keep telling myself that . . .

If I were seriously looking for a great singer in my area, I think I'd try to meet up with a music prof at the closest college, or a HS teacher, or a choral director, & ask about singers. (Of course, with the HS teacher, you'd want the names of GRADUATED students.)

You could check with the musicians' union, too, I guess. I always forget to look there, myself.

Man, if you were near Rehobeth, Del, I could introduce you to a wonderful person.
