Everything is all learned. Just gotta iron some kinks out as a band.
The show is friday evening - got started saturday after they dropped off a cd of the songs.
We have one more rehearsal on thursday. If it turns out to be productive, we should nail the gig.
I'll keep ya posted.

Okay, I'm ready for the report!

How'djado?

Bet it was gr to the 8, as the rappers would say.

My turn next Friday, & I can't wait to do it, even if I am a lil shaky on a cpl of the tunes...I'll get 'em better this week.

I had fun :)
We were running pretty late driving up there so it was basically: park, pile everything on the stage, setup, souncheck, and play.
There were a few wrinkles and f-ups, but so far anyone that heard it has
said it sounded good -- even the singers ol lady, who likes to play simon cowell and nitpick stuff.

See? I knew you could pull it off!

Good for you, Zip!

Now I gotta do the same thing next weekend, but 1st I have to check out these guys what contacted me from my lil ad in here, this afternoon...hope they're worthwhile, yet not so good that I look like a hack!

The flat singer guy has added "Rebel Rebel" to our song list, but I've played that before so I figger I can do it again. He does do some interesting yet popular songs...everything from Smashing Pumpkins to Billy Joel to David Bowie to Pink Floyd...& I STILL got that damned Turning Japanes thing in my lil warped headbone...why oh why won't it go away? Maybe if I started doing "Don't Worry Be Happy?"

Zip...if ya didn't have that nervousness about this gig, do you think you'd have done as well?

Aw crap, now all I can hear is that damned singing bass my father in law had.

Nope. If you have a little worry about it, you work harder.
And I worked my little fingers off.
As long as you arent freaking out on the day of the show, I think a little pressure
has more pluses than minuses.

I told you Zip's not a moron. I 'll bet very few people other than the band members even noticed the little wrinkles and f-ups. Sounds like there could be some repeat gigs from this. Good going! :D :D

Zip = you gonna work on some more shows with these guys, or was this just a one-time thing?

Always interested in how these things turn out for my brethren.

Yep, definitely. I'm glad it went well, I had no doubt you could do it. I love doing gigs like that one and the one philby has coming up. I always do my best under pressure. I spent 3 years in the 80's doing almost nothing but fill in gigs, loved every minute of it, Nothing like telling the band "Nope, never heard it in my life, what key is it in, I can play it" then seeing the looks on their faces after I actually did it...usually made very few obvious screwups, just didn't have a clue what signature licks to play so I had to improvise. I learned how to disguise mistakes so that even the band didn't know they were big, bad, hairy mistakes. I'd love to be able to do a few more gigs like that sometime...last one I did was a few months ago by surprise when band leader flaked out and dropped it in my lap after the 1st set. I loved it and it went really well.

Hey Philby, you have a lot more warning than I ever did, all that time I got onstage with guys I just met an hour ago and no idea what they would play, whay key, what changes they made...you have a song list, that's`miles ahead of what I got,

GO GET 'EM!!

Show 'em how it's done...us old farts ain't been around this long for nothing... :D

Looks like the plan is to continue on with them and see how writing some new stuff will go. Thats always a biggie... whether or not you Gel together in the creative department.
So I find myself in two bands now actually. This classic rock cover band project that Ive been doing for a couple months (slow going so far), and this new all original band.
But ya know, both of them could go *poof* tomorrow. Or I could go *poof*.
A person never really knows, so I'm just trying to enjoy what music time I get, and have fun.

And of course I still have to come in here and flap my gums. :)
