Any country fans in here? I am a huge country fan and want to share with everyone my new discovery: CARTER'S CHORD. Thanks to my boss at UMGD I was able to take a listen of their new digital debut album and was completely blown away. These ladies know how to do country music!! country music has this bizarre effect on me, when I hear it, I actually want to grab a sharp object and gouge my eardrums out, to stop the pain.

Seriously though, most of it sounds like low-iq rednecks singing the same old tired licks about trucks, dogs, beer, bars, and of course, toothless women. I can't tell the difference between a song written in the 70's and one written a year ago.

Eh...I like some Dwight Yokum sometimes, & Brad Paisley is one heck of a guitarist, for the genre.

The traditional country of the old days doesn't do much for me, except maybe some Johnny Cash or Willie Nelson...there was a certain amount of heart in their stuff that just grabbed me, when I was in the mood.

Perhaps it's cause I learned how to play on some of that stuff, in the 1st band I was ever in.

That rockabilly band I've been in for 11 yrs or so does a lot of that sort of thing, along with some kicking rock & a few southern rock things.

I can't say I'm a huge fan or anything, but there's some country that I do like a lot, in answer to your question.

In all fairness though. I was in a resteraunt restroom today. They were playing pop music real loud. I came close to shooting out the speaker so I could whizz in peace. Damn I hate that crap.

Country is like every other genre. the cream of the crop is great, the rest is crap. Dwight Yokam, John Denver, Don Williams, Patsy Cline Keith urban shreds, New grass Revival, Merle Haggard. etc etc etc etc

I like the country.
I like the west. East of L.A. anyway.
But for me, I'll just ROCK!!
Used to listen to some old country music, before silicone, and Kiss show fakers too over the genre'.
Found an Iron Butterfly 8 track in the ditch on a horse ride one day.
It was all over.

I live in the country........does that count.

I just cant stand to listen to much country, well wait a minute I do like Gretchen Wilson cause she does some mean Heart and Zep.

I don't mind listening to it once in a while, but I won't play it; I need more of a challenge.
No denying its popularity, though . . .
And it doesn't matter if 50 rockers or metalheads come on to 'dis' it - Country still one of the most listened to genres . . .
I'm talking about real county music, by the way, not all the other stuff that's being called country . . .

I actually enjoy some country. Some of my favorites are Dwight Yoakam (Pete Anderson played lead guitar on a lot of Dwight's tunes and he's an awesome guitarist), Clint Black (an awesome harmonica player), Randy Travis ( the man can SING), Willie Nelson (truly magnetic stage presence), Brad Paisley (stud lead guitarist and excellent lyricist), Alan Jackson (good old boy with crystal clear vocals), etc. I think there's also an awful lot of commercial crap in country. Like anything else you have to separate the wheat from the chaff. One of the things I like best about country is that most of the vocals are easily understood. I may not like the content of most of the songs, same old hackneyed topics, but I appreciate the recording quality and the timing of the bass and drums is usually airtight on most country tunes. The drummer in fisherman bob and The Bluefin Tuna Band (walleyed-Mike) has played a lot of country. Even though I'm primarily a blues bassist we seem to fit together like hand in glove, so I truly appreciate a good country rhythm section. Some of the tunes I've written have a country feel for sure. A few I would classify as country. Later...

I can't stand any type of country music. Every person I know who listens to country music is retarded...I don't know if it has anything to do with the music, but it's just a pattern I've noticed...

Country music? Sometimes depends on the song, but I take my hat off to country and bluegrass musicians even if I don’t like the song I appreciate these guy’s work and talent.

In another post Mike Gentry cited Roy Clark, is a good example amongst others even though I find Roy’s playing a bit labored, but there are many others and not just guitar players that can play Zepplin, Aerosmith, AC DC, Clapton and anything else they put their mind to with ease.

I’ve always felt that southern rock is played by country musician who turned to Rock/Blues using the famed 3 chords first, forth, fifth.

Weird thing is, I don't like country.. no really, I DON'T like it, but I dig some Southern Rock
Maybe it's the Bluesiness and the Rocking style... not sure.

I'll bet it's 100 to one in my area. Most every store or business is playing country music. Most all the venues as well. I still cant stand that whinning assed crap though. Disco was mega popular as well. It's no more music than rap in my book.
Much rather listen to some classical stuff, If no rock is to be had.
