LOL...it's 7 AM. I'm getting a late start cuz my wife is going with me.

I've never played any fish more than a few minutes, so there's a big prob I need to address right there - the patience factor.

I guess I should be using the lighter line today, as this pond looks pretty snag-free. The drummer tells me to use the biggest lures I can find, & he nearly guarantees hits on them. I have some rubber worm lures set up, & a cpl salamander/lizardy-looking ones, too. Then there's the hard lures I have what look like lil fish, a cpl frogs, bugs & stuff & the really weird looking ones, too - the spinners, I guess. I should get to try them all, if I can keep the wife interested enough to keep fishing...LOL...there's always something, isn't there? If she's catching stuff, it'll be easy, though.

Seriously, I'm really looking forward to this one, cuz all the other places I fish seem a bit limited. Yeah, I get tons of teensy sunnies & bass. I caught the smallest large mouth I ever saw the other day. It was about 2 1/2 inches long, & not as big around as my thumb. I was really proud of that turtle, though, cuz I didn't break my line, & I actually pulled him up[ out of the water. Of course, at that point he wasn't putting up any fight, he was just waiting for the chance to bite me. Nasty look in his little eye. 'Bout skeered me...LOL

Hey, that's some good news about your band. Sorry about the heat (yeah - it's my fault, but I AM the Lord of the Summer), but it sounds like you're on to something really good with your new guitarist. Wish I could find one for Flamingo Road.

Well, it looks like it's time to go - YAY!

I'll report in later.

I used to fish for largemouth quite a bit. Fake worms worked very well for me. Rig them up weedless and fish them VERY SLOW, sometimes not even moving them at all for a minute or two. A color for fake worms that works well in any water color is black. Another good idea is to get one of the fish scent formulas (Berkley makes a bunch of different scents, one is for largemouth) and put it on your fake worm, or whatever lure you're using. Using the biggest lure you've got isn't necessarily the best idea. Try switching sizes of lures and colors. Find the right combination and stick with it that day. Sometimes the smallest lure works best, sometimes the biggest one may work. In some casee big lures might catch the big fish. Big fish cannot move fast or they expend too much energy and die. They usually stick to the same small area. A big lure in the right color presented SLOWLY is going to be a good choice for big fish. ANyway good luck...

1st cast - used a hard swimming minnow lure - caught a nice sized sunny - as I was reeling it in, a huge bass took it in its mouth, not 10 feet from where I stood! I stopped reeling, hoping he would eat the sunny & then I'd have a truly magnificent fish to brag about. It was more than halfway in the bass' mouth. He let it go, of course. At least my wife saw it, too, so it ain't just another one of those "fishing stories."

So at this point, I was on a mission! I used big purple plastic worms, black worms, salamandery/lizardy lookin' things, soft minnows in a rainbow of colors, grubs in white, black, & red, hard swimming lures in black & white, yellow, & red & gray, spinners in black, silver & red & white, & a popper.

I got a whole slew of littls bass & a buncha sunnies. Caught my usual quota of two keepers - good sized bass, too! Put 'em on the stringer & tossed them in the water. A big snapping turtle just swam over & chewed 'em all to hell! Now THAT pissed me off!

At one pont, my wife, who'd wore this lil halter, complained that she was getting burnt, so I gave her my shirt & kept fishing. We were there for about 7 hours, total, & there's no cover. Not a tree or even a shrub near the pond.

So now, of course, I look like Hellboy, I'm so red-burnt!

I'm going back next weekend, but next time I'm taking a big puffy pink parasol & some SPF 2,000, cuz this burn is deep in my muscles & I'm such an idjit & I hurt like hell but I loved every second of it!

Alo vera is great for burns. Better you than her. Cotton mouth like fish stringers too! Enjoy.

Tnx, sans. The wife bought this aloe stuff that she puts in the fridge, & rubs on my seething flesh. I think it's the sadist in her what makes her do that. I stand there shivering & moaning while she giggles at my reactions. At least she's gentle about it.

I do think that red is a very good color for me. I look so healthy for a guy in so much pain...LOL

I'm glad we don't have cottonmouths around here. I already got bitten by a copperhead once, & lemme tell ya THAT was no fun at all!
