Does anyone here play more than one instrument,...do you have any suggestions on learning new instruments while not getting worse and hopfully improving on others.

Myself I'm a mediocer/basic rythem acoustic guitar player and fair but not spectacular banjo picker,... and I'm now starting to learn bass guitar. since I work alot I've already put the guitar in the case and under the bed....I'm spending about 15-30 min playing the banjo daily and 30-45 minuites on the bass some days to much time is at work so I play the radio at work instead......

I just don't want to turn into sombody that knows 3 chords on every instrument and doesen't play anything that good

Some of the things you learn on one instrument will carry over to the other.
As long as you are learning and enjoying - keep it up.

I like the idea of playing more than one instrument it keeps things [like my mind ]fresh ,i myself am learning bass and that helps me with fills on my guitar ,nice root note changes using my thumb more ,hey who says you can't teach an OLD DOG new tricks...I try to practice one instrument one day and the other another [ hey that sounds like it could fit into a song ]hmmmm..

I played bass alot for 4 years. Then I guess I kinda got bored with it. Picked up the acoustic guitar 3 years ago and learned to play it along with my harmonicas. I was suprised how much easier it was to learn guitar after playing bass that long. I also played the trumpet, tenor sax, and tuba in the school band but never really got into the band thing. 8)
Just make sure try to apply what you know about music to every insturment you play and the ones you want to play.

I play Keyboard, Rhythm guitar and some basic drums. I wish now, that I had tried to learn more on lead guitar, but as a singer/songwriter, writing the music and arranging it was my joy. I just wanted to write more and more music, so I was lazy on learning lead, which I wish I had more skill in now. But, never too late, right? :-)

Bass, guitar, drums, keyboards, and singing. Pretty confident on all of them. I used to know trumpet and violin when I lived in a rich town, but I forgot that a long time ago.
