Sometimes it depends on what kinda music you play... and apparently you don't have ANY influences at all. Kinda weird.

Are the instruments listed in your profile the right ones for your stuff? (I recently discovered that sometimes they are put in there by BM, if you don't fill out the forms properly.)
If you're looking for bluegrass instruments, go to the places where it's played to find others to help. Likewise for any other genres of music. Go where it's played & talk to the ppl that play it.
Look to your local music stores to find others to play with, or to teach them to play your stuff if you can.
Hit the open mics or coffee houses to play your songs for ppl & get real responses.
Other than that - find something you're good at & can make $ with until you have enough to record on your own.

thanks phil...appreciate it. problem is im stuck in Hazard Kentucky. if they had a coffee house, you'd only be allowed to play skynyrd, and the nearest gigg is 150 miles away. i'll tell ya this place is like the twilight zone! its been so isolated (80 mi's to interstate) for so long that there seems to be some kind of warped reality here. im just gonna have to move my ass back to civilization! ty..tc
I thought it would be like that, too, when I came to WV. I met a lot of ppl that fit into your description perfectly of the die-hard fans of any particular genre. All they wanted was what they already knew & heard to death.
After stumbling around for awhile, I found a great open mic, played my songs & got good responses. Then things got better, my confidence grew, & I actually made a pretty good living at it for a bit. I figure $700-$800 a week, back in '93, was pretty good, anyway, for a solo guy out here in the wastelands of the music scene.
I met a lot of good ppl who are great players at these things, & have started up a few bands, too.
