Got out to see Machine Head last weekend. The played for a good 3 hours and maintained a respectable pit for much of it. This was their first show out on what will probably be their last tour (edit: with this lineup) as members are leaving the band after. They've had a good run of 27 years so far. Last time I saw them was at a smaller venue in the early 2000s. (which, surprisingly, they remember) Some around here hope that Vio-lence will reform but probably little chance Flynn will want to do that.

Did a couple of covers at an open mic. Friend of mine from the tribute band FooTube guested on acoustic bass. His new band will be playing next month and I'll be sure to post it here.

Ok...Hopefully, I was able to fix the link in the post. I don't have much practice at sharing fb stuff, I guess.

Got out to see the Devildriver show. We were really there to see Jinger. This show was done in a small club (I don't think it is listed on the U.S. tour schedule) so it was nice and up close for everyone. There were two CA bands on the show, HellHeart and Raven Black. The former band is fairly local to us. We'll be seeing them again, I'm sure. The other band is from Los Angeles. Had a good time hanging out with them after the show. They are good people. (Not as crazy as they look, lol)

Raven Fox from Raven Black on the left and Ali from HellHeart on the right.

Great show last night!

Opener: Niviane...

Interesting act. Thrashy with higher pitch vocals and some guttural vocals.

2nd up: Hatriot...

Formerly headed by Exodus' singer, is now his son, Cody on vocals. Guitarist in my current project knows their guitarist, Kosta.

Finally: Testament...
With Alex on guitar. What can I say? Just awesome. The other guitarist, Eric, lives nearby. Shared a rental music studio with him briefly in the first project I was in when I moved to CA. This show was not part of a tour, but just a one-off show that was "Eric's fault".

Went out and played at a coffee shop this last weekend. Saw this classical 7 stringer...

Matthew Foley

You can find him at Instagram: #7stringclassicalguitar

Here I am at The Fig Tree, pretending to be one of the hipsters, lol. This is an original that we adapted for acoustic.

And a little CCR for the coffee crowd.

nice 7 string playing....tho i was disappointed he spent so little time on the low ones.

thanks for sharing your "musical adventures".....after all, isn't that what a MUSIC Forum is SUPPOSED to be about?

We do both "Have You Ever Seen The Rain" and "Who'll Stop The Rain" in SARAH & MARK. Being CCR tunes they always get good crowd reaction. At a gig last wkend I actually got to share a little bit of a rap about Fogerty using the word "rain" as a metaphor for another four letter word!

This is our version (or one version) of "Have You....". Somewhere there's another version floating around w me on upright that I prefer to this one.

very lovely. do you'se guys think he tunes the 7th string to A or B? :?:

In that video I believe he's got the low one tuned to "B" as I heard/saw him play an "E" note on it at the 5th fret.

Morg, you're a seven string guy, no? Do most 7 stringers in Rock/ metal/shred and their different offshoots tend to favor "A" or "B"?

Among 7 strng jazz gtrsts it's pretty much universally "A".

Normal 7 string tuning is B on the low string for both contemporary and classical instruments. (although Quatro guitars can be found using B, A, or G) For what a metal guitarist might prefer, it depends on the material. I use B, leaving the remainder of the strings as E standard. I'm not opposed to drop-A, though. I think I know a few of those songs that can be played with one finger, lol. If I move up to 8 string, I would definitely use drop-E, leaving the 7th string as B.

about what i figured. i know there's the occasonal foray into low A but i tend to think of that as a part of jazzers mishagosh.

i do get the geometry of having that powerchord diad AE and then... adding another A to get a REAL bigass AEA...that's gotta be pretty satisfying whacking out some of those thru a loud amp.

but the way my brain works....i really do like having that straight up 4ths thing that i'm used to in the low range and on basses. (keep in mind most of my bass playing is done on a six string bass w low B and high C).

when i got my first six string bass i thought i'd try both a "6 string gtr tuning" w the 2nd string being up a third from the 3rd string.... and straight 4ths across. . i did the "gtr tuning" first and within like 30 seconds i knew it HAD to be in 4th all the way across! 8)
