In my realm, since the 90's it has been 'Man in the Box' by Alice in Chains, and bloody "Kryptonite' by 3 doors down.
Stop dancing to them people, so nobody has to play them again!

And Mustang Sally baffles me. Seems it's on every classic rock cover bands set-list in the country, but in my opinion it never should have been played more than once by the original artist.
Why couldn't they have had that moment? ..."Wait a minute... this is just a big pile of useless feces... lets move on to something else.."

Think about it, "Ride Sally, Ride". It's a good tune to get women in the mood. Song sucks, idea good.

Yeah...it wouldn't have the same impact if it was "ride, Mabel ride"

Back in the late 80s I was in a touring rock band, and that damned Mustang Sally was always a part of the show, as insisted on by the lead guitarist/vocalist. To this day, I really don't see the fascination with it. It's not even a good song, seriously.

I tried rebelling once and told the guitarist that I wouldn't play it even one more time. He said if I did that, they would find a new keyboard player. Needing the money at the time, he had my balls in a vice. The way I coped was I played simple right hand chords on it, and propped up my head with my left hand, elbow on the keyboard, like I was bored out of my skull. Got a lotta laughs from the audience and since the guitarist almost always had his back to me, he never saw it.

People have trashed the following songs:

Metallica - Enter Sandman (If I hear it one more time, the next person to play it is going to have a problem! Lol.)

Metallica - For Whom The Bell Tolls (And they ruin it, it has barely any complexity, and they ruin it!)

Seven Mary Three - Cumbersome (Annihilated by many bands)

Tool - Schism (I think I have seen this done a couple of times)

Guns & Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine

Godsmack - Keep Away (Way over played, probably because of its simplicity).

----------------------

But as far as classic rock:

Lynard Skynard - Simple Man

Lynard Skynard - Free Bird

Lynard Skynard - Sweet Home Alabama

Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven

Bon Jovi - Wanted Dead Or Alive (I saw one band do this, wanted to scream, they ruined it!)

----------------------

There are so many that could be mentioned, Lol. People burn songs into the ground.

I would like to see people cover things like:

Depeche Mode - Enjoy The Silence (Lacuna Coil version even)

Tears For Fears - Shout or Mad World (Even the Gary Jules version)

Duran Duran - Ordinary World

Godsmack - I Stand Alone

Metallica - The Four Horsemen (With all the solos! Not the wannabe Nickelback form!)

Metallica - Whiplash (I am covering this someday, haha!)

Megadeth - Elysian Fields

Megadeth - Family Tree

Megadeth - A Tout Le Monde

A Perfect Circle - The Outsider

A Perfect Circle - Judith

Klee - Gold (English version of course)

The Verve - Lucky Man

The Verve - Bittersweet Symphony (Unless you want a plain chord version, find an orchestra for this piece)

The Verve - All In The Mind.

Richard Ashcroft - Break The Night With Colour (I will do this on stage)

Filter - One (Their version I like, and no it is not Metallica "One" they are covering, it is Harry Nilsson's song "One.")

-----------------

And hey, for kicks, I want to make someone play "Stream of Consciousness" by Dream Theater (Who I am seeing live this month!). Let a person cover that live! Haha. Good luck to whoever is dumb enough to even attempt John Petrucci covers on stage (Better be really good, Lol).

So yeah, we all know things are way overplayed in this world. Hopefully I will not cover those horrid overplayed songs too often, Lol.

Well, that is my list.

Peace out, GuitarAnatomy.

I learned a warped version of Stairway...It's called "Stairway to Freebird" by The Rev Billy Wurtz

Check it out, but be careful about playing it...now I hafta play THAT song every time I am on stage, & yes, it's just as irritating!

My old band is getting back together and yesterday we set up the full pa and practiced outside at my house. We played around 50 songs and some of them are straight out of the "dont do" list here.

As a band we talked about it and just said that when we start gigging next month we would let the audience dictate what we will play, we will probably wind up playing everything that we dont want to play, but we always put our own spin on songs.

On a side note one of my neighbors saw me getting coffee this morning and said I was waiting to hear Freebird or Stairway To Heaven, can you believe Im playing in my own yard and someone requests these songs. I wouldnt let the guys play Highway To Hell or Hair Of The Dog.

Our soundman had his little db meter and we were 110 dbs 20 ft in front of the mains, 100 dbs in front of the drums. Hey its only rock in roll but I like it, add that to the list.
