I am split decision, not because he is a bad singer but I don't appreciate the genre.

I asked 4 people. The one guys says he sounds like WINGER with a heavier setup going on. He thought the vocalist wasn't bad.

The next guy said the whole band sounds similar to Old Iron Maiden, no lead singer. He thought the vocalist was decent, but the band is fairly tight.

A younger chap I know, says he could do Incubus type material and have it be plausible.

A woman I know that manages acts locally, said she didn't think his voice fit with the materials you are playing.

I think he sounds a little like Winger and a little like Incubus, but if the guy is tight with you people you could do a hell of a lot worse.

When band members start getting flaky or unreliable then that tells me they're not into what they're doing. It's simply time to find somebody else. You're not going anywhere with this guy and you know it. There's plenty of good singers out there who would LOVE to sing with you. It's time to move on this. Good luck....

first off great stuff. The singer is great. The only criticism i would give is... it sounds like all the other singers out there. Even the band is great but you all have that same sound thats already flooding the airways. It's so over done.

Heres the thing with singers. After they pratice a lot they need to rest their voice. I would recommend going to kroger and get a dark honey, not that golden brown processed crap. and to GNC and get throat coat. Use a teaspoon of honey in the tea. Try not to talk. Sounds like he needs some time to rest. Hold off praticing for a month and see how he does. A band needs to support their vocalist. he's using a muscle, not some strings or drum heads that can be replaced. Be patient. He could have nogiels on his vocal cords.... I mean there's many reasons he could be having trouble. All singers go through that. Their voice can go out due to allergies, being sick. It's their instrment and they need to take care of it. Chew gum, drink plenty of water keep the vocal cords moist. Hope this helps

Drums sound great also..... Listening more I can hear some 6am in there. Can't say I agree about Winger??? That's bizarre!
I would try to work with him. Maybe he doesn't know whats going on with his voice and the pressure is getting him down.????

if I can be frank the vocals in your music don't really impress me, but from a band point it sounds like you guys are all on the same page. If you've already confronted him about this and he refuses to change, what else can you do? He's not actually going to change his ways around.

I know it's convenient but I would look for another singer before giving him the boot. Sure you may just be wasting time but you said yourself how hard they can be to find.

But what airwaves are you listening to? I sure don't hear any guitar playing on the radio here. Couple power chords with the same post grunge Eddie Vedder wanna be voice. And as far as the music goes, please tell me one song by a current "radio" band that sounds anything like Last Words or Fiasco. I'm sorry, but this is just the one thing I take offense to. I've not heard once that we sound like any modern-post-grunge-radio band. And I'm really just not sure where you're coming from. But, really please enlighten me as to who has a song that sounds anything like the 2 I just mentioned.

Southern Wife is just afraid you guys may resolve your current problems with Jordan and end up blowin' her "to busy creatin' the greatest 80's metal cover band in the world to speak for himself" old man's band clean off the stage someday! Rumor has it she is not much liked by the other band wives, so go a little easy on her.

Better actually. At the last show we played before I started the thread, Jordan's dad had come to the show. A show in which Jordan sang terribly. His dad is a musician as well and actually had a record deal at some point in his life, so he looks up to him quite a bit. Anyways, we think his dad had a talk with him and told him he wasn't cutting it or something, because ever since then, Jordan has been SO much better. Thats really the only thing I can think of that would make him do a 180 like he did. But were still having a talk with him tomorrow night. We didn't think April fools day was a good day to have a serious conversation.

I'm curious, how'd it go?

First off, I liked the music and I'm an old guy who doesn't listen to too much on the radio today.
Second, find out a few things about your singer. Has he taken lessons? If not, that might explain the voice problems. Everyone in your band who sings should take lessons, learn to sing the right way and the throat problems will take care of themsleves.
Third, if the problem isn't lack of knowledge, maybe it's lack of interest. The biggest problem I've seen in bands is when one person writes the song and someone else has to sing them. He may not like what you are writing or simply feels like he should be included in the process to "make it his." When he gets up there to sing he knows that for good or bad, he's taking the brunt of the reaction. If he doesn't really believe in the song, he's not going to give it what's needed to make it work.
Lastly, he seems to have a nice voice and hits the notes he needs to but I'm not hearing any real passion or any real unique quality about his voice. Judging by this, I'm just guessing but it doesn't sound like he's real dynamic live. If I were you I'd problably hold on to him for now and see if the problems work themselves out but I'd keep my ears open to other signers who might fit better.

By the time we go on, now that we're the main act, the crowd is usually plastered anyways so they don't give a rat's a$$ what the singer sounds like as long as he and I do our usual theatrics!!

I came across this and my first impression reminded me of someone I know very well. But like the guys before me also already kindly pointed ouot, you guys are very well put together and at this stage I say call together the band and have a chat with him.
