This is the 1st song I've ever tried that with...I wonder about these competitions, but thought, wtf, ya know?

It's Called "Heads Up!"

I know it's far from perfect...& too long...what else is wrong with it?

Recorded it on a 4-track...did it all meself.

I like that one Philip: A little more volume on the footsteps / crunching leaves intro may improve the ambiance, Good One

Good job ol' buddy!,

My only complaint is the half minute that lapses until anything happens!

(don't forget, most of us have a short attention span)

You and Blair would make an awesome duo IMO

I wouldn't say anything is 'wrong' with it.
Dont think it's too long, the intro pushes it out 30 seconds but it's cool.
You could end it at 4:28/4:29 with a 'look out below' as just vocals in reverb. Drop the music out from underneath you.

Are you David Bowie isn't an influence? I didn't see it listed on your page, but
it reminded me of some of his stuff.
And nice Beatles trick on the last verse.

I think it's brilliant.
But... at 1:51, is that a cough?

I thought the cough was intended?

listening now... you have a nice voice... in some spots you could sound more convicted but not bad at all. Rythm struggles a bit in some places and could use a mixdown. Using a reel to reel?
a perc track would do wonders... even some simple bongo/congo.

Thanks, mentlegen...I was waiting for you to point out that stuff...

yes, a cough...I was huffing like a guy climbing & hacked at that point, but left it...the climber was s'posed to ease back in there

the timing thing was the fact that it was a rush job recording it in my living room before the wife & kid came home & I would have to stop for the day, so I did it all in one take at a time, no fixing any mistakes...I know...cheesy...but it was originally just s;posed to be done to give ppl the idea what I wanted...then I never found anyone that wanted to do it

I still like the song, though, & I figgered I'd send it in, not as a finished product or anything, but simply as a song I thought was pretty okay to see if it did anything...don't cost nothing

I have better songs, perhaps...I'll try them later

I personally though it should have ended way before it did, too...but I was just starting to record stuff, & I guess I got carried away with it all

I've seen that happen a lot when ppl just write a new thing & record it, like I did that day...yeah...it was written & recorded all at once in about 7 hours...like I wrote it as I recorded it

"She Turns Me On" was done the same way, probably the same week...you know...a rush job writing & recording at the same time...thus the recording was done at too high a volume...but the song idea, I think, is pretty good, & someday I might redo it unless I can come up with stuff that is so much better that I'd rather just trash this older stuff...LOL

So did you hear anything back on the competition?

I liked it! Very nice...the cough gave it a "live" feel I thought ;) I'd like to hear what happens!

Nothing yet, Zip...it's entered in 3 different categories over the next three months, so only time will tell...I don't expect much, really, since it isn't a "finished product."

Most of the songs I hear that win these things are quite professionally done, & I can't seem to get back into the studio right now cuzza scheduling prob's...

Besides, even if I do get back in, I know me...I'll never think it's a finished product...LOL...sometimes myself is my own worst enemy on completions, & I get to be too much of a perfectionist

I know...hard to believe from what you've heard thus far....but it's true

Thanks so much for the responses!

I'm surprized no one said it's too sad or depressing, though. LOL

I've heard that from a few of my friends. There was another guy who told me it should be the theme song for a roofing company.

"Look out below!"
