This is the 7th year me and my friends will be playing at the annual Beatles-theme benefit show (money raised goes to the 'music in our schools' program) at the end of May.
In previous years, there were usually 8-10 acts, each one doing 2-4 songs. For the last 4 years we've been the 'headliner', closing out the show and leading a grand finale with all the performers joining us on stage, leading the audience in a sing-along.
This year there will only be 2 other acts, and we'll do a full final set, so we've got a little more rehearsal work to do than previous years, but to combat that we're pulling a number of songs into our set that we've done before. We've also added a drummer/percussionist. Yesterday we had our first practice, playing about 4 hours and going over the full proposed set list. And we are also getting a decent paycheck out of this event, as its being run by the for-profit coffeehouse instead of the church that sponsored it before.
We headed out for some beers and pizza after practice, and while there lined up a 2nd (charity) gig 2 weeks after the benefit!
