DANE - you DID start this particular scene. Your FB post and reply from people who know no more than you post about it assume that this venue is a place that sells something (drinks?) and turns a profit.

How many times did I tell you that it is being run as a non-profit? Its an art and performance center. They sell no products of any kind. They don't even take a cut from any art that is displayed there and happens to be sold.

You even confronted (on FB) one of the people who runs this place with your accusations of running a scam - which could seriously jeopardize my chances of gigs there in the future.

BTW, DANE - do you realize when you post things on your FB wall/status, you are broadcasting them to everyone who is your FB friend - so when you make some comment about some $2 thing fleamarket find you're selling that's intended for one person, everyone sees It (and winders WTF you're talking about)?

since we are back on this again, about the hearing room, we might as well ask all the bm music forum members their opinion? is it play-to-play or not I say yes, others might say no.. my friends, including one that runs one of the bigger booking agencies in Florida, agreeed with me, not necessarily a scam, but they are paying 5 bucks to show their tunes off..

now, if this was at a bar that's selling booze, and charging at the door, in other words....making a buck, yeah then it WOULD qualify to ME as pay to play.

But at a non profit place that offers artists a place to show and sell their work (w/o taking a cut no less)and they're giving musicians opportunities to perform...no, IMO it's not pay to play.

When you piss off someone who you don't know, who happens to be a very nice easygoing guy, and who books the entertainment at a non-profit place, probably killing any chance of me ever getting a gig there again, while the hell should I not be PISSED at you?

I started this thread yesterday morning, before you went nutzo about 'pay to play'. Do you even understand what pay to play is? Its when a band or performer has to (pre)sell a bunch of tickets to a gig, and any sales the band makes after that minimum will be what the band gets paid. It's not paying a nominal *donation* to keep a non-profit going.
