Thanks for the suggestions, Much appreciated. (Kinda like Scarlet's suggestion)
I shall now enlighten y'all with a hopefully brief account of the naming of my early eighties super-group, "Tentative Relationship"
Our first foray in the recording studio was to a guy who had a nice setup in his house. He could produce a good demo on the cheap. After a whole lot of set up (we used a Marshall half stack and an Ampeg STV bass amp, miked. Frig direct boxes for them!)...anyways,
We recorded "All Three", a purely "hypothetical" composition about a guy who was in love with three babes.
Now, with the jewel of our fist "professionally" recorded demo in hand, in the form of a demo cassette, we could send it down to good ol' WFMU, East Orange New Jersey, one of the best "underground" radio stations in existence at the time. As luck would have it, we had a friend "Frank The Beat", with a show there.
Problem.... WE DID'NT HAVE A FRIGGEN' NAME FOR THE BAND!
Our genius bass player, Patch, wrapped the cassette in a piece of brown paper bag, scribbled the radio station's address on it with a black marking pen, along with a message about how we were having trouble agreeing on a name. We decided to let Frank The Beat name us!
When the time for Frank's show, and our big radio debut, we all got together at our house to quaff a few brewskeys and listen to the show. You can imagine the suspense as we waited in anticipation, not only to hear what we would sound like over the air, but WHAT WE WERE GOING TO HAVE TO CALL OURSELVES! Happy to say, we were ecstatic over the way "All Three" sounded through a radio speaker.
When Frank announced.."From the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, a new band, TENTATIVE RELATIONSHIP" with their song "All Three" .... we just sotta sat there lookin' at one another.
As we developed the band, we learned to love the name. Most people came to refer to us as T.R. (same as Teddy Roosevelt)....later..
