ah yes the old chestnut of the "name"......

when i play solo its simple enough.... "anthony hoey"

i play in a two piece called...."ahicknamick" we used this name because its a slur to both of us...jon my buddy is a hick....and im a mick....
put it together and you get "ahicknamick"....

as for the full band...well thats a different story...we still dont have a name and we have gigs coming up so we shall have to settle on something...we toyed with "threehicksachicknamick" but that aint gona work...ill keep you guys posted to what we settle on..

slain.

We're called Cuttin' Up, but I wanted "Breakin Wind", but the ole lady didn't like it and the rest of the band followed her lead, (The TRAITORS!) LOL!!

Thanks for the suggestions, Much appreciated. (Kinda like Scarlet's suggestion)

I shall now enlighten y'all with a hopefully brief account of the naming of my early eighties super-group, "Tentative Relationship"

Our first foray in the recording studio was to a guy who had a nice setup in his house. He could produce a good demo on the cheap. After a whole lot of set up (we used a Marshall half stack and an Ampeg STV bass amp, miked. Frig direct boxes for them!)...anyways,

We recorded "All Three", a purely "hypothetical" composition about a guy who was in love with three babes.

Now, with the jewel of our fist "professionally" recorded demo in hand, in the form of a demo cassette, we could send it down to good ol' WFMU, East Orange New Jersey, one of the best "underground" radio stations in existence at the time. As luck would have it, we had a friend "Frank The Beat", with a show there.

Problem.... WE DID'NT HAVE A FRIGGEN' NAME FOR THE BAND!

Our genius bass player, Patch, wrapped the cassette in a piece of brown paper bag, scribbled the radio station's address on it with a black marking pen, along with a message about how we were having trouble agreeing on a name. We decided to let Frank The Beat name us!

When the time for Frank's show, and our big radio debut, we all got together at our house to quaff a few brewskeys and listen to the show. You can imagine the suspense as we waited in anticipation, not only to hear what we would sound like over the air, but WHAT WE WERE GOING TO HAVE TO CALL OURSELVES! Happy to say, we were ecstatic over the way "All Three" sounded through a radio speaker.

When Frank announced.."From the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, a new band, TENTATIVE RELATIONSHIP" with their song "All Three" .... we just sotta sat there lookin' at one another.

As we developed the band, we learned to love the name. Most people came to refer to us as T.R. (same as Teddy Roosevelt)....later..

That's so good, I may try to organize them just to see it happen. I may know just the women to do it too...a local act called "The Saliva Sisters". They are just funny and crass enough to try it.

I dunno I haven't had a band to name yet though when I still lived with my brothers (who play or played) we were kicking fun names around like blah blahblah (name of singer) and the lords of apocalypse (its such a fun last name to have mwuahaha) but my youngest brother is more avid about his video games and the middle brother ended up selling his kit last year....so it never got farther then names being kicked around while we were stoned

we kicked around some names. then while looking up something online our guitarist opened up a dictionary and saw "copasetic". Granted it's an adjective but we liked the old fashioned sense of putting a "The" before the title.

I think a band name not only has to be representative of the music or entertainment style, but also something that has workable tie-ins. If the band name is, for example, " The Sailors" (sounds hokey, but you get the point), then you can tie in CD titles like "anchors away" , "all aboard" , hell, you can even go the pirate route and call your next album "shiver me timbers". Yeah, I know, this is all dumb as hell, but the point is the obvious connection between the band name and the material...keeps people thinking about it...

(Hey, at least I didn't say "The Sea Men".)
