Is the only way to contact other local members is to pay the 12$ a month? Seems pricey when there are so many other free forums and networks.
Am I missing something?

1) Make sure the person's profile is current - it'll show "last active _____" - anything after one month just shows 'more than 1 month'. If they haven't logged into their profile in that time, they may not be checking the related email either, or may have the account set not to give them email notices - in other words, "move on".

Is $12 that much of a hardship? Maybe you're unemployed and have plenty of time, you can spend hours googling and searching for the people outside of Bandmix, hoping they'll respond to a facebook message from a stranger, for example. I've tried that. One guy (after 6 weeks of practices) was 'too busy with work'. 2nd guy never responded at all.

If you can do this with Google and craigslist, go for it. If this site offers what you want, go for that. Try it for one month.

But you have to send out a lot of invites. Like Mike says, there are lot of members who start accounts and don't really pay attention to the site in general after the fact.

A lot of threads on this forum are about the next step after that, no replies. Just because you message a member or invite them to a digital audition, doesn't guarantee that they'll respond.

So my advice is;
Research the members you want. Make sure they're active within a month.
Make sure it's a large pool of prospects to guarantee more returns.
Then join and message them with contact info.
Then let the subscription go after that.

This site is a resource that you have to use effectively. If you want it to work for free with minimal effort, head to cl.

Get a job? Nice!
Just so you know my house on 2 acres including fully equipped studio is PAID for. I work in physical therapy and have been in the healthcare profession for over 20 years. I have zero debt on my 3 vehicles and ski boat......................... Most of my financial decisions to put me in this place is based on being frugal and keeping a low overhead. You may call me cheap, but my 2 Suhr guitars were not cheap and they're paid for too!!!!!!!!

I may try it for a month. /the goal is to find the right people and due to living in a rural mountain area where by and large musicians do not have a good jobs or top shelf gear, I am hesitant to find more what I have already experienced.

No problem. Stick around. We're collaborating on a lot of stuff on this forum. You can also try Ohm Studio. That's a site with its own built in daw where you can collaborate with other musicians all over the world.
