That's real 'old school' in multi tracking. It's how I started with 2 cassette decks - a boom box with built-in mics and my stereo system. I'd have to tune the guitar between every take, because the two decks didn't have matching speeds.
I'd be very surprised if Ableton didn't have a built-in metronome feature.

you were not. there's no 'pitch shift' when you speed up or slow things down on the DR-05. only the speed changes.....not the pitch.

good to see you finally acknowledge that there ARE intonation issues there. (even if it took you six pages of posts to get there.)

Dayne , i'm thoroughly embarrassed for you.

You pointing fingers and claiming my intention (and others) was to humiliate you? REALLY?

NEWS FLASH......You've been shitting the bed for six pages....And if you honestly feel humiliated you've only yourself to blame.

Here's how you humiliated yourself.

1. You were the one to compare your work to Pat Martino.

2. You got all pissy when no one was weighing in on your tune. (Man up...that happens around here, and you yourself don't weigh in everytime someone shares a new tune or vid)

3. You asked for critique and when i gave you mine about your intonation issues, you chose to dig in and take that as a personal attack.

3. Soliciting us to give you gold stars and likes for your song??? ....and THIS after i told you the problems i had with it. that's sad. desperate. and embarrassing.

4. You offer a barter....to give ME a gold star and "like" in exchange for giving you one.

5. Others besides myself have weighed in here w what begins as polite, friendly, and constructive criticism. Did you take it as such after you begged for people to weigh in? No, you did not.

6. You actually attack someone's musical skills (mine) and then later Vinnie's???? Note that Vinnie didn't bring up YOUR skills until after YOU started that childish crap.

7. You dishonestly, or at the least disingenuously tried to claim i "played out of key" and "hit clams" on my version of the BMproject3 tune. Hey, if you didn't like the tune, or my playing wasn't FAST ENOUGH for you...fine. But for the record, I never compared MY work on that tune to Pat Martino.

8. More dishonesty from you....you assert I'm always cutting other people's playing and music down. Perhaps in the weird perspectives you demonstrate regularly, you actually believe that nonsense...or perhaps that's more dishonesty from you in the weak effort to push buttons.
But I doubt there's anyone else here who believes that bullcrap for a second.

So, when did you start playing the game like Glenny and decide it's ok to be dishonest?

8. You bring up Hillary and the election in a conversation that has nothing to do w the election. In the MUSIC SECTION of this site. Why? Trying to push buttons?

9. You bitching about Vinnie's "love" for me....it's a matter of respect and class on his part, and nothing more. And you've shown yourself to lack even the smallest bit of class when you try to deride my skills, Vinnie's, or anyone else here who frequents this forum. Totally classless. What's next? After stooping to Glenny's level, you're gonna stoop to Haley's and put forth the notion that Vinnie and I are gay lovers?

10. You went from refusing to acknowledge there was any intonation issues at all...to then trying to pass it off as some great and grand artistic tour de force you were gracing us with. As if "intonation dissonance" was your intention all along. Sorry, you can't have it both ways.

11. Suggesting a "contest" to see who's the "better" gtrst? Good grief.

12. You bringing up the "Jew you down" bit. I'm glad you did because, yes...there are parallels here. When you used that expression, both Jook and I nicely tried to explain to you that many people are offended by that expression....EVEN IF IT WASN'T MEANT AS A SLUR.

But you refused to accept that and instead dug your heels in...just as you've done here.

Like I said, I'm truly embarrassed for you. But if you want to blame someone for any attempts at humiliation ....run, don't walk, run to the nearest mirror and point a finger at your reflection.

damn planetguy, you write a manifesto about it?... that is your own mind making out sambop's "love" for you as possibly.something else.. I would be honored to have a friend you have there, that would defend my honor like that with vile attacks and biased opinions and crucify my adversaries that disputed your guitar prowess and jazz chops.. good going having a vile and vicious friend like that..

I didn't read through all the pages so maybe others have said this...
It's raw and sounds like early stages,
But reminded me of Tull to the point I was hearing a flute as the lead. And the drums with the same stop and start feel as the git!
Good luck with it...

thanks, jahva, it really is a starting point and it's a bit rough still, (I really need to use a click track) but hopefully there is enough there, to give my collaborator jookeyman, enough to get started working with it.. when I play it back, I think it might be hard to use a drum machine anyhow? not really a straight rhythm , it almost will need a human drummer, I think?

Yeah definitely a human... it needs those little dynamics/nuances only a twisted minded percussionist could bring... :P
But yeah,,, say no to the drum machine!!
Unless of course you're doing simple things.. like me!

listening to "Won't Live Forever" as I write this, and it sounds like it could be playing on any radio station, it's that good..it sorta reminds me of The Kinks styling.. now, "No Good For You" coming on, and tight and radio ready too!.. do you use a home recording setup? and do you play all the instruments? that's great music! :D .. I did not know?.. I think I came upon this bandmix forum after you had sorta quit hanging out here that much.. :)

does it look like I am holding grudges jook?.. did you even look to see who was still writing about it?.. you did not see me coming back with anything as an instigator did you? you do what you want to do, as far as the "track" is concerned.. eventually I will get my studio back up again.. I had a little spurt of creativity erupt for the first time since last winter, and I'm not sure it even makes sense messing with that DR-05 as a studio quality recording machine LOL.. good for spontaneous ideas though..LOL.. just do what feels right for you jook.. I don't generally work or contract out under stipulations.. but I was over it when it stopped last night, but it looks like planetguy needed to write a book about it, and make judgements.. but it's up to you, try to have fun with it if you can or want to, but I will have that riff to dig out in the future whether you want to or not.. :)

Holycrap... that's pretty close to me hair back in the 80's...
Now mind you I wasn't a poser... just got thick hair...
Was more of a Black Crowes meets Zeppelin kind of thing. But I never wore any animal printed pants/tights/spandex

Thanks for the comments Dayne... I have a bare bones simple DAW direct into an interface and a low budget version of Pro Tools nothing fancy. A few hundred and I was good to go.

Yeah I played the gits/bass and my son occasionally plays drums for me or I tap em out on a keyboard. (I don't recommend it though) But hey It's all refrig art. anyway.

I remember Vinny... wasn't he also the chick bass player?
