General Music Chat

How about going through every forum and deleting the obvious spam?
No one should have to tell you which forums or which 'messages' are spam.
Please clear out the junk, it gets tedious.

I've not seen much spam here recently. When you see something, use the 'report' function at the top of the page to report it as spam.

Why do titles for deleted threads live in perpetuity in the lists of topics? That would be a great place to start.

If someone replies to a spam post, then when that original post is deleted (or the spammer's profile is deleted), then the thread remains with the replies. So stop replying to spam posts, and they will disappear when deleted.

"Most recent topics"? I just look at the sections on the main page and can see which ones have recent posts. Maybe its different when viewing on a phone.

I've stopped replying to spam topics, unless I want to own them. Usually, in that case, I change the title. But they stick around, which is stupid and annoying. A topic listed with no posts? This is the only forum I can imagine where that happens.

As for the 4 recent topics below, not only are they the easiest way to read up on new posts, but they're top billing. If you're running a music forum and trying to attract musicians to post about music, why should they be clobbered over the head with Slacker's latest cut and paste hatchet jobs? That's just poor taste. Make the guys who come here to only post about politics go dig through menus and sections and lists. Music first. Always.

that makes a lot of sense to me. and it just might be as good of an explanation as any as to why so few new people ever show up at this site to discuss music. Or....even show up to discuss the latest piss and moan political rants in what Jook refers to as the "Romper Room Section".

Maybe its just because every thread turns into another meeting of the 'piss & moan club'!

Maybe they need a sophisticated Captcha system, but that may deter some real human posters, or the humans may not be able to figure out how to get past the Captcha...

In lieu of last night's awesome posts about pirated video games or some such nonsense, this could never be more apparent.

I understand that many of you whiny little babies don't have any self control and have to read them, but have you considered that if you posted more in the section you want to post in (Freedom of speech) that the posts of those who post in the non music section wouldn't even show up at the bottom? Or have you even considered having someone else operate the mouse for you, schmed, due to your lack of self control, so that you won't open topics in the non music page? So why are you even pasting in the whiny thread of this music section only? There are over 20 pages at this site for "music only" yet you just can't stand anyone else using their freedom of speech, can you little control freaks. What a bunch of whiny old maid busybody anti free speech phonys. The reason more musicians aren't pasting in this music section might just be because you are so boring.

To combat the spammers, I suggested putting all new forum members in 'moderated' status for a period of time - each post of theirs would need to be approved before it would post. After a certain amount of time/number of posts their status could be changed to 'full' if they hadn't spammed.
