cheers jw123 and your right it is a mood piece..its a freak.. theres no verse or chours as such...and it could never be called pop music ill tell you that much....but we always tried to push things hard in my last band..
we mangled different styles together ie dance, techno, rock, metal all styles we loved and tried to do something new with it....
im very proud of all the work i did with decadence...we were the best of friends and we really worked well together...once opon a time...

but now its time for something new...i think.

so its an album filler song that was never going to be released as a single...

Bingo.

I "was" going to say that it would be PERFECT as an album filler, as-is. A cool little piece to put somewhere. But I didn't know if you'd take offense at that. Album fillers, not meaning throw away songs, but songs like that, which don't have the traditional structure of songs intended as singles, can be really cool. There are albums I can name, that I still remember these filler pieces, cause they come out of nowhere and are just cool. That song is perfect for that.

Lmao. Yeah, yeah. It sounds great out there... Especially being viewed like a horror movie...

Lol. That is why I am not moving there... I want to live a little longer and not be attacked by zombies in hills... All it takes it one "Wrong turn."

I.A.
I just got around to listenin' and I decided to check it out before reading the other's comments so as not to be influenced by other opinion. My impression was that the song would be appropriate as a part of an album, as opposed to a "hit single". Looks like I wasnt alone in that view. The term "album filler" came to mind , but in the early days of recording, that term usually meant an inferior song recorded just to hasten the release of the album. I would regard "The Hopeless Optimist" as a first rate component of a larger work. Once again, Good Job.

Well put HowlinJ. "a first rate component of a larger work" It's seems most here agree (even you IA) that it's not a single. That doesn't seem to prevent us all from diggin' it bigtime. I did have the same initial reaction as everybody else with the build taking to long and the explosion needing to be earlier. BUT I have a different process when critiquing work. I listen, get an opinion, get away from it, then come back to it. I try to listen at least 4 or 5 times before giving an opinion. Having said that. I quickly got used to the length of the build. MAN YOUR BASS PLAYER ROCKS MY FACE RIGHT OFF MY SKULL!!!!!! Your Vox are great. They don't get lost in the mix to me. It's an Indy mix. The tension-tension, tension-release melody WITH THAT GUITAR HARMONY at 2:42 - 2:52 is insane. There is more emotion packed in there than I can describe. Again it's an STP feel, but not a ripoff. I dig this song big time. When was this recorded? What did you play on it? Did you write it?

cheers howlin and paul....it means alot to me...i delighted you guys dig it
as for when it was recorded...it was about 3/4 years ago... i sang and wrote the lyrics(theres not many) and the melody...this song was just a little ditty we used to play at jam...we would carry the build up forever ...starting with a wisper and then building it untill the speakers start to bleed...oh the memories
and the bass player was my best friend and an animal of a player...we have played together since our very first band "the septic snails"...we were both 15 and green as grass...we really worked well together and always brought out the best and worse in each other.

thanks again howlin and paul.

Really like this one, could have a pretty cool Psychodelic Shoegaze thing going on!!

The only thing that stood out that I'd like to hear in it is around 2.10 when the drums kick in. Would be nice with a lot of work with the toms to get a kind of tribal thing going...I know what I mean but not a drummer so can't explain it very well but a big sound there would be cool :P
