that's the trouble with playing w realy good drummers.....they spoil you.

as for genres...i've often used that same line "...only two kinds of music, good and bad" but that is rather short sided and a little goofy when you think about it.

when i go out to eat i don't just walk into any restaurant because i know they serve "good food". i'm thinking about WHAT TYPE of food i want to eat. if i want BBQ, Chinese, Mexican, or Italian....i'm going to a specific place that caters to that "genre".

same w music. i don't just turn on any radio station in the car. maybe i'm feeling like (older) country, maybe classic rock, maybe jazz.

and if i walk into a record store i don't want to sift through 200 albums of Bach, Brahms, Beethoven, Beastie Boys, and Beach boys when i'm looking for an album by Chet Baker. i'm glad their stuff is put into neat little categories.

and unless it's someone here on BM, i don't want to waste any of my time checking out anyone's tunes on line if they're death metal or Scream-o. so, yeah.....i do prefer to know the genre beforehand...and i'm glad there are categories.

and that's not even getting into answering/placing classified ads for bands/musicians.

"hey, i saw you have an ad looking for a drummer. what kind of music d'ya play?"

"yeah, thanks man. well, you know...we play GOOD music"

New version of the crunchy song. Ran it through ye olde cassette deck, fixed the stereo image and tacked on a better ending.

here's one that I recorded while adjusting levels at the beginning of our jam two weeks back. I dropped the guitar off right when it started cooking, so what else? Time to play with fx!

Here's a jam with me on drums and the guitarist. I was attempting to do some double bass heroics with the hi-hat clutch off. the song is edited to show off the guitar parts, but I think the drums still sync up pretty good. Another track with a bad stereo mix. Will have to redo.

Enjoy!

i dug 'em schmed.

"Squara..." good sludge

"What A'ham A ....." dug the palm mute and the groove

"Double Bass..." huh...i never DID hear any UPRIGHT. i think you should develop that one some more and clean up the time stuff. (yeah, EVERYONE's a critic)

Thanks guys. I don't know who those people are you're referring to. First song desperately needs some keys, but I'm having a hard time making it happen. Second song I didn't play a note on. We retried it last week and I like this version better. Third one, yeah my drums suck.

New song I've been working on for days. Started as about a 20 minute long jam when we had both guitars going and I was playing through the Little Thunder pickup. I still didn't get the level of the bass amp mic right, so had to boost bass across the board. I hate mixing a full band to 2 tracks. I'm used to recording to 4 tracks at a time on my 8 track.

I employed a few new techniques on this one, including cross fading two tracks into each other. I don't know if this is really Bossa Nova. Maybe someone who knows for real could enlighten me.

It was a fun jam and I was locked in with drummer pretty tight. It was crazy to see what the guitar guy was playing on lead. I can't play like that, I know that much!
His EHX Pitchfork pedal was friggin amazeballs on this one. The early parts sound like organ on some of those jazzy fills.

I'm pretty happy with this one. working title is This Is Too Damn Long!. I could use some help figuring out what to cut out next. I gots the fatigue after listening to it 100 times.

Like I said. Fatigued. Got some suggestions by the time counter? I realize it's a pain in the tuchus. Thanks for listening. Your new stuff is great as always.
