Ok, so I think I'm catching on here or hear. As an experament I took all that Boss junk of my board (except the chromatic tuner) Pulled my little Ibanez 15R amp out of the house took it to my shop / barn / studio.
Mic'ed the little thing up with a condensor mic into my PA and hooked my strat into the wireless - tuner - amp, and guess what I found. Big Fat Strat tone Go figure more control from my 5 way pick up switch and tone knob than I ever knew I had.
Just imagine what I can do with a "good" amp.
Anybody want to by some used Boss pedals?

That was going to be my suggestion to you. Just a good guitar through a good tube amp. Any size amp will do.

Ok, now I gotta ask. Why Tube? And by whom?
Everyone has a different op I want yours.

What kind of Boss pedals are you selling?... I'm thinking of a flanger for my Halen stuff as I'm not too keen on the built in flange in my amp!

I have a DSII and a Metal Zone.

A tube amp just has that sound. Most people call it warm. I played a tiny fender tube amp from the 50's. That thing sounded like hot sex. If it is less powerful you can just turn it up (without killing people) and it gets a natural driven distortion.

George, I think I put in another post about the little Epiphone tube amp thats out now. I played on one at guitar center. All it has is an on/off switch and a volume knob. Its a great sounding little tube amp.

I have a Mesa Subway Rocket, 20 watts tube, they show up on ebay for 2-300 bucks, great little amp. Its loud enough for small clubs by itself.

Smaller amps have a lot more dynamics to me than the big stuff, and I have both.

Ive got a little 5 watt solid state Fender that sounds great miced up. If you dont need big stage volume the little amps are great.

Craig, I might have to find one of those Nano amps. They sound great on here.

Thanks again guys, Ive been researching amps and reading back posted threads on amps n tubes n stuff. Tube amps are expensive in comparison to the solid state models. A small one is all I need as I will be mic-ing into my PA for the monitors and mains and really need to get all the tone I can out of a minimum of volume. I may be asking too much from one amp though. I need to play clean and dry for tunes like RAIN, some blues tone as well as some really heavy rock / metal sound.
I learn slow but with research and help from more experienced musicians I'll get there.

Uh oh.. This is where it starts Sansouheil.. You are now officially hooked. There is no turning back.

Sure it starts with a small pedal here and there. Then all your friends are doing it, and you think it's no big deal. What's one more pedal ?. Then all the sudden pedals aren't enough, and you start moving on to other things like amplifiers and it feels so good you just have to have more. You start needing them just to get through the day. But they're just a gateway to other things like guitars. Now you're really a mess. You live your every moment thinking about it. Your whole life revolves around it. Now your friends and family start getting concerned. They try telling you that you have a problem, but you're in complete denial. You start walking the streets whoring yourself out for any 12ax7, or 6l6 you can find.

Trust me I know.. I've been to Guitarist Anonymous, and it doesn't work. Sure you can talk about not wanting Stratocasters, but the reality is you just need it to survive. You have the shakes in the morning if you can't have your fix.

I went to rehab for my amp addictions but they just kept pumping me full of Solid State circuitry, as if that was gonna work. As soon as I got out I would just go down the street and get any Marshall I wanted. It was everywhere. I could even buy it at a common pawn shop if I wanted.

It's a tough road.. I've been there. I'm still living through it today. All I can do is hope that my experiences will help someone else in the future.

Shredd your sick for posting that picture. What kind of pedal board is that? Does it have power and a true bypass? What is the refregerator looking amp in the middle? I'll give ya 20 bucks for the Gibson amp.

I may have to head to Guitar Center and get a fix after seeing that picture.

I've accumulated all this stuff over a lot of years.

When I look at it, a lot of memories can be seen in each instrument.

That big assed refrigerator looking amp, was the first big amplifier I ever got. It's a 1974 Gibson SG 610. It has 1-12at7, 2-5881's, and 6-10" speakers. . It doesn't have any high gain. It's more like a traditional vintage gain. It's the best clean channel I own. One channel is made for Bass, the other for guitar, so the Bass tones in this amp are freakin' astronomical. Ive had it since I was 16. It's gone everywhere I've gone since I got it.

(The smaller Gibson is a G-35 solid state. same year, smaller version, almost as much Bass. Still an awesome clean channel. It's really good for recording. It still has the plastic on the front panel.)

See the Blue Strat? That was the first guitar I ever bought with my own money.. Bought it at Guitar Center in Santa Ana Calif. in 1992. I had a choice at the time to buy a brand new PRS or this Strat Plus Deluxe for the same price. The Strat just felt better and sounded better to me. I was really into Blues playing at the time. I loved listening to old Robert Johnson recordings. I saw Jeff Beck and Stevie Ray Vaughn in concert (years before), Johnny Winter, Clapton, Page.. That was my state of mind before I bought it.

For about 6-years I played the SG and the Strat with a DOD American Metal pedal. Damn man.. That brings back some memories..

Sanshouheil might not accumulate this much stuff. But you never forget your first big purchases, and you'll always remember when you bought it, where you bought it, why you bought it, how much it costs, who you were playing with at the time, that kind of stuff.


Then it's all downhill from there.. Get ready to spend a fortune Sans...

I had a Fender Music Master Bass and a Ric 2001 Bass that I let get away from me. I couldnt count the amps and pedals and pa equipment that slipped away somewhere.

Maybe this weekend I'll get a wild hair and stack all my stuff up and take a picture of it and post it.
