i had an embarrassing encounter when I assembled my latest six string rig. I usually play bass and play in one and a half bands now, after all - you own a bass, you will work! . But I play guitar as well and like good gear.

I wanted a 4x12 Marshall cabinet for sure but when I started asking about heads Jason the sales guy said, quite unkindly but honestly, "You looked at a calendar lately man?"

Sometime I forget. I am no longer 28 years old. Marshal heads? The damn things weigh a ton. I compromised on a 200 Watt Fender Mustang V modeler. IT sounds good at any volume - has loads of high tech goodies and pre sets and lucky for me, doesn't weigh much. At it's very best I can make sound almost like a Marshal.

If I were playing guitar in an outfit I guess I'd go Line 6 or some such.

Mike, those 4x12's weigh almost 100lbs. I have a Mesa 2x 12 with vintage 30s and I absolutely adore that cab! It does weigh about 60lbs. I have that Blackstar head that weighs about 30lbs. This new Marshall weighs 58 lbs! Thank God I still have a strong back at 57 years old. I just have to have a tube amp nothing sounds like it!

Jeff- sounded like only the vocals were thru the PA? Needed some reverb on the vocals, they sounded a little dry. Guitar sounded good and everything was balanced.

Of the 5 bands I caught last Saturday night at the benefit, the guitar amps choices were: (1) Fender Deluxe, (1) Orange head with double stack of single 12" speakers (not Orange), (2) Peavey 2x12, (1) Blackstar. All got miked into the PA, which had subs on each side with mains on poles above the subs. Having a house system is nice for bands, for sure, if its set up well. I don't miss the days of moving 100 lb speaker cabinets. (let alone when we had a keyboard player with a B3 and a Leslie cab).

Mike everything was ran through the Presonus 24 channel digital mixer. My girlfriend shot that video with her phone. The reason for the short video. It is not meant to be a top quality recording as it is recorded on her phone. Don't know if you realized that is an electronic drum kit. Because of the phone mic. it is hard to hear the lower frequencies but I assure you they were there. It is a very small club/bar so there is probably some sound coming from the amps. She was sitting at the table literally 3 feet from the stage.

I could tell the low end was cut off by the video device. Miked amps makes sense to get the balance I heard, though that it might have been due to closeness.
