This is a new project. What will be a 8/9 piece band, Guitar and Bass, Drums, Percussionist, Lead Vocalist/Guitar with a Horn Section (Alto & Tenor Sax and (hopefully) Trumpet and two of them also cover additional Keyboards/Piano), most with backing vocals. Not really interested in pub gigs (except possibly for promotion) and looking to play out and out party music. There will be absolutely no blues, very little ‘rock’ and absolutely no shite standard cover-band rubbish (S*x on fire, Dakota, etc. and definitely no Carlos Santana!). What there will be is a large portion of high-tempo funk, soul and disco. Doobies, (but not Long Train Running!), Stevie Wonder (but not the schmaltz) Robert Palmer, Peter Gabriel, Earth Wind & Fire, and lots more. We are based in South Essex (Southend, Brentwood, Basildon) have dedicated (and free) rehearsal space - not in a sweaty studio and professional recording facilities (in a sweaty studio).

There are personalities, but no huge egos to contend with, and it’s going to be a very democratic group. The ability to take the p***, without malice, would be an advantage – a sense of humour is a must. We will be using the latest iPad/iPhone wireless controlled PA (through which everything will go, so no dragging around your own huge amplifier. We have a pro sound engineer (the percussionist); with the objective of being as tight and crisp as most bands just aren’t. There will be proper promotion and website/FB Page, but (as we are mostly of ‘a certain age’) no long distance function or corporate gigs as having a regional sales director being sick on your monitor at a hotel in Maidenhead has limited appeal these days. All gigs will be on contract, with full PL insurance. But above all you must love the music. If it’s just another ‘job’, please don’t apply. If you want to be in a band which blows people’s socks off without playing at 4 million decibels, doesn’t spend ten minutes between each number deciding on what to play next, and where there are no concerns whether the lead guitarist/vocalist is going to get wrecked in the break we might be right up your street. We are not necessarily looking to gig every week and want to be choosy about what we do. All of us are dedicated and all are good musicians, most of whom have 20+ years experience and all of whom have done OK in the ‘day job’ so they are not dependent on the income.
There probably won’t be much money in it until the party/wedding/function gigs start to roll in, but in the long term, we aim to be at the higher end of the market price-wise. There will be a fair and equitable share for all with ‘open book’ accounts.
