jack, who fronts The 121's truckstop band that i play w three weekends a month is very good (or bad depending on your perspective) about playing requests if the person isn't a jerk.

a cpl wks ago some nice lady asked for Proud Mary and i was really hoping Jack would politely decline....but nice guy he is....we ended up playing it for her. and guess what....it was a BLAST! big surprise to ME. jack can REALLY sing.

i later had a nice conversation w her on our break. she bought the band a round, and i thanked her for the drinks and request. i explained that "Proud Mary"...though it's a great song, isn't one that most bands enjoy playing. she was quite surprised and wanted to know why. i explained it's because it's been done to death. she found that really interesting and then she asked which other songs fall into that category. nice conversation w a sweet lady and it was a most pleasant way to pass that break.
