Brian Griffin in Serious Motorcycle Accident!

Image

Our brother, and Southern Mischief drummer Brian Griffin was in a VERY serious motorcycle accident Sunday night. He is alive and NOT paralyzed, thank God, but the accident was very serious. He sustained many injuries, including:

Back Broken in 2 Places
Broken Ribs
Broken Thumb
Bruised Right Lung
Cuts and Scrapes

He locked his brakes up, avoiding a cat that ran into his path. It happened at night, and luckily there was a Sherrif's Deputy not far behind Brian, who saw him lay the bike down, and was able to get help right away. The Deputy told Brian, that it was lucky he was there, cause laying on the road, on a big curve, the next car coming through there could have taken Brian out, not having time to react. So, it could have been MUCH worse, and Brian will recover, but it will take many months.

VENUES: Please note, we have a drummer filling in for our upcoming local gigs.

Thanks for everyone's prayers for Brian and his wife Cheryl.

We appreciate everyone's support!

Craig,
My heart and prayers go out to Brian and his family. The good Lord had angels watching over him, to have the police right there soon. I pray for a fast recovering and for you guys and your gigs that are to be done that they would go smoothly.
God Bless!

Thanks guys,

Thanks very much for the prayers and support. Hopefully Irminsul has pulled his rolodex of gods out also. ;-)

Thanks everyone.

I spoke with Brian tonight by phone, and he is pretty doped up on morphine, which they give him every 4 to 6 hours. He feels that the deputy being behind him was a blessing from God. (I don't usually feel that way, when they are behind me, but wow, sometimes it's true!)

I joked with him, that there were MUCH better ways to be around hot nurses, than freaking the damn band out, and being layed up in a hospital bed! LOL - He laughed, which in hindsight, probably hurt worse, but hey, I was trying to cheer my brother up! And I did it to Gary after his accident too, so it's officially a band tradition now!

Until I get up to Chattanooga area, I won't really know for sure whether this was really a motorcycle accident as his wife claims, or if, as I suspect, he jumped to the back of the Kama Sutra too quickly! :-)

But in all seriousness, we appreciate the support. Our MySpace is already beginning to fill up with similar comments of prayers and support, and I bet by tomorrow night, when more people have seen the bulletin I sent out, it will be loaded up. I know that helped Gary's spirits, and got him back to us sooner than expected. Hopefully the same will be true for Brian. But a broken back... wow. That seems like a longer recovery.

You guys are real friends!

Thanks for everything!

Craig, I am glad to hear that he is doing well. It is good that you were able to keep him laughing and make him happy, and yes our prays and support are completely with him.

It will probably take a long time for him to completely recover - with a broken back rehabilitation will take a long time. But it sounds like he is going to be just fine.

And yes, there are better ways to see hot nurses than get yourself busted up like that. Just go in and pretend you got a flu, then enjoy the view.

Well, seriously though, keep us updated on his progress. He is blessed that that police officer was there, that seems to me to be more than coincidence.

Peace be with everyone, GuitarAnatomy.

Wow, sorry to hear that. I hope that he recovers soon. I have friends who are bikers; one guy I know broke his back and several other bones, he was laid up for 6 months. The first thing he did when he got out of the hospital was buy another bike.

Craig, I will say a prayer for Brian: Tell him for me next time run over the cat. No cat is worth the suffering and pain of a person. I gave up bikes after my last trip under a Lincoln Towncar.

I hear ya bro!

He's been getting some sh*t about that cat, who bit the dust anyway.

I used to have a bike years ago, and any friend I have ever known who rode with any regularity, will be the first to tell you "If you ride a bike regularly, you WILL lay it down. It's just a matter of time."

Two wheels, and sharp turns and loose gravel and pot holes and people just not seeming to see and respect bikers. Too much of a recipee for disaster. If you have a bike for long enough, you're gonna lay it down one day. It's almost inevitable.
