Upgrade on the pedal board from the old style TU-2 tuner to the newer TU-3 unit.
Simple upgrade seems at this point to be beneficial for two reasons.

First:
The TU-3 has an "High Brightness Mode " that would seem to nearly double the LED output.
I have had difficulty in bright venues and especially outdoors being able to see my tuner.
Granted I have not applied this yet except in a brightly lit room at home, but it does make the tuner much more eye friendly.

Secondly:
Now I can use my old TU-2 in my home ( reads air conditioned ) practice room without having to disconnect and move my pedal board from the band room.
Been somewhat reluctant to practice like I should with the band room running in excess of 110 degrees this month.

I got a Marshall head amp connected to a Fender cab but I can't get any sound out of the head. I've got them connected correctly because I'm getting sound of the cab just not the headSo basically my question is, "Do guitar heads produce sound or are they just an input for guitar to the speakers?

Highly suspicious link you have in your second post - and why you would reply to a 3-year-old non-related post rather than starting a new on is suspicious too.

A 'head' is an ampifier (with preamp, too) that supplies a high-level signal to unpowered speaker cabinets. A speaker cabinet is just that - speakers in a cabinet, no power. You wouldnt' get osund from a speaker cabinet unless you gave it an amplified signal.

All Boss pedals are powered by a 9volt battery or a 9v DC power supply. The TU3 is not a 'dual pedal', the LEDs are twice as bright as the old model.

I know this is an older thread, it's been a couple of months, but for future reference, I recently pulled the tuner from my pedal board and switched to a Snark clip on. Clips on and works by picking up the vibrations of the guitar, don't even need to be plugged in, I've had to use it at outdoor gigs a couple of times and not hard to see, quick and accurate as far as I can tell.

I was using a Behringer tuner someone gave me, it seemed to work fine, had the blue LED's and the blue is a lot brighter than red or green, I had to put tape over the on/off LED because it was blinding. Same for a Rocktron distortion pedal, the blue LED is so bright I hate the thing, covered it with duct tape. I can still see it through the tape.

I'm pretty impressed with the inexpensive Snark, we played Sat night, I had new strings on the strat so it had a tendency to lose tuning just a little, never took more than 30 seconds to check tuning. I don't leave it clipped ointo the headstock though, I think that looks tacky...It also has a nice feature, if I need to use a capo, which I do use for one song, it has a capo mode that works great for the 1st 4 frets. It tunes the right note, but says it's still the same string name. So if I use it on 2nd fret that's a F#, it tells me I'm tuning to E, so I know that's the E string instead of trying to transpose and figure out if I'm actually getting the right note.

The one good thing about tuner pedals (if used in-line) is the automatic muting so the audience doesn't hear you tuning.

The Snark I'm using does the same thing, I just have to turn down the volume, which I do anyway soon as a song is over. I have my foot on the volume pedal when I stop a song, it's immediately shut down. Same for the acoustic, I shut the volume off so it won't feedback, that happens now and then.

I liked that when I was using a pedal, and could use it the same way, just turn down the volume. I removed it though and that opens up another pedal station.

I didn't think too much of it till I used the one our other guitar player has, it's quick and does a good job, don't even need to be plugged in since it picks up vibrations and it was only 15 bucks. The main reason I got it was to open up another pedal spot. Since I got it I'm liking it pretty well, only takes 30 seconds to check tuning between songs, probably need to do that 2 or 3 times a night. Great when new strings are still stretching...

Those Snarks sure are ugly hanging off the head of the guitar, though! ANd how about when you're a minute into a song and realize that it didn't shut off when you hit the button, so the thing is all lit up on the end of your guitar for the rest of the song?

I've got a Radial PZ-Pre box now - great multi features for control. 2 switchable inputs (each with gain-volume control), so you can have two guitars plugged in, ready to go, no cable swapping. Switchable FX loop which also has a booster built-in, so you can have either booster, or FX loop or both kick in when you hit the button. Mute switch, and dedicated tuner pedal output jack. 3 band EQ with sweepable mid and bass pad (3 settings). Pre- and post-EQ XLR DI outputs and 1/4" amp outputs. Provides some great options for chaining your gear together.

My new favorite tuner is the Polytune from TC Electronics. They make it in a foot pedal and also a clip tuner. It's fast, accurate, bright, and allows you to strum all strings for a quick check to see which ones are out. Pretty awesome little tool.
