I've been around for awhile; music has been a source of many experiences and successes for me. I am very concerned however, having moved to AZ, that standards are SO LOW. I received an email containing 15 "New Musicians in my Area" this morning. 14 of them had no audio. NO AUDIO !! WHAT is up here ? Is there no shame ? Do you think a "cool" (or not-so-cool) picture will do the trick ?
Please allow me to remind you:
MUSIC is and art of SOUND. The only thing you are showing by NOT HAVING AUDIO is your extreme LACK of many things concerning hooking up in music. A description, a picture, claimed "experience," ALL that means NOTHING if you have no AUDIO to show others. Thanks, Bobby

I agree, but keep in mind money to some is hard to come by, and a crappy recording done on a 75 dollar machine might hinder some BandMixer's careers.. I look at my tune" Anytime Is Fine" and think a 80 dollar an hour studio with a decent producer would have made a world of difference, that and doing all 1st takes because of financial problems could be over looked with the right amount of bank..I could now do 2nd takes on some of the sections..

Yea, agree. Mostly, they don't put music up because they don't have anything they want to be heard.

But these kinds of sites are not how you want to find a real band anyway. Go check out the Copper Mine Brewery in Phoenix when "Instant Classics" is playing. They do a "live karaoke" jam every week and you might find some good singers. Great bands attract great musicians (when they're off) so you might start by asking players in working bands, or employees at local music instrument stores about who they would recommend.

It's not going to be easy if you don't know the local scene already...but they have an underground magazine in Phoenix that you can glean.

Good luck.

Bob

You seem kind of bitter my friend. Don't let it slow you down.

I hate to ruin your stats but I am working full time on putting a musical project together. I may starve but sometimes I just can't look at those horrible office buildings and all the good folk out for a '...spot of rabbiting.'

Happy Thanksgiving

Not "bitter" at all Mike. Just a bit tired of posers who are so fast to call others "wanabees".

I wish you much luck with your project.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Regards,

Bob

p.s. To The OP -

I actually do have a new song on my profile, called "Big Time".

Bobby, Firstly let me make it clear that I am in Melbourne, Australia so I have not viewed your page of any of the other commenters on this post...and I only hope that some of the people in Australia read this comment. In my opinion there are numerous "find a bandmate/band" sites around the world Bandmix has from my experience some quality players on the site much more than others probably because it is a paid site rather than a free site....and there are wannbes on every site it is up to the browser to sort that out. I agree that one should, or if they want the best responses will, have some examples of their work on Bandmix, links to website, FB, Reverbnation etc.
My main issue is this, if one has gone through the process of putting up a page on Bandmix with the intention of sourcing opportunities to play in or find band members, when someone from Bandmix sends them a message that person DESERVES A REPLY ... I don't care if the reply is "it's too far away from me to travel" "not the kind of music I want to play" "found another band/bandmate already" or "your music is shyte wouldn't play with you it you were the last person on Earth" some reply is the responsible action...and in fact should be a requirement to remain on Bandmix. Now I know that most musicians don't read anything longer than a tweet or a FB post and many of them can't string a sentence together but how much trouble is it to provide a reply to a message. You put your page up here and said you "want to join a band" then when someone offers you an opportunity to have a chat or a play based on what you have put on your page, then why would you not respond to that message one way or the other. I have recently sent out messages to 12 Bandmix members...got 4 responses...what's the deal with that...obviously you probably either can't play or are never on time for rehearsals or gigs either. The unprofessional, irresponsible attitude of musicians never ceases to amaze me sometimes and then they wonder why they are not "getting anywhere" with their musical endeavors.
Rant completed .... hopefully some Bandmix members in Australia get the message...no response required to this one. I wonder if others experience this same problem....or maybe it's me?

Sadly what you say is typical. One of our posters actually formed a band or two using bandmix and kept count - he (George - Sansuhoil) stated that it was running twenty to one - twenty time wasters / no replies for each actual hit. I see no excuse for bad manners but that is the age we live in.

I have found it to not be quite that bad - indeed I've been quite fortunate in hunting down or being hunted down, and met good folks. Still playing with some of them.

Don't know the density of players in Oz however but I'd imagine probably quite a few.

Best of luck with that

I myself have posted a few videos, but not sure if the link works or not. I have not loaded any audio because to be blunt,I simply dont care! I dont come to this site to "Find" people to "Jam/Join up" with. I initially started coming to this site to "Chat" "discuss" and interact with people of similar interests.
After having the displeasure of seeing how some of the members (not all,but some) conduct themselves, I rarely come here anymore.

Dang, I'm running out of popcorn...can ya'll hang on while I make some more?

For the record, I love klezmer. It takes real musicianship to play that stuff. Not as popular as classic rock, but much more challenging and personally satisfying.

Working musicians do whatever we have to wherever we are. Its petty to rag on each other like this...but fun to watch....unlike the Cowboys yesterday.

You guys are funny...but it looks like it's getting better.

I'm on the way to play a tour around Israel. They love klezmer there.

You can drive to most of the populated areas (and back) in about 2 hours. A few days in Jerusalem, A few in Tel Aviv, Tiberias, Haifa... My Polish friends will meet us there for some recording when I'm done playing around. The hotels have wifi so I'm sure I'll be checking in.

Ya'll don't hurt each other...or tear your dresses. Happy Thanksgiving. I'll be back just in time for Hanukah in New Orleans.

Have a good time Ted. If you need a radiologist in Haifa, look up my old friend Eddie Gerson. He's the best.

The topic was Bandmix Ads...not who has a better cover song repertoire. Remember you are only young once but you can be immature at any age.
