I've been on Bandmix for a few years and have played in several MD bands over the last 20 years; some successful, some, well you know... I have not contacted a lot of people because I'm not sure what their purpose in signing up with Bandmix is. So here are a few suggestions that might help make your profile a bit more transparent and hopefully lead to more contacts. These suggestions are mainly for people who either want to start or join a group of other musicians for playing out (a little or a lot) and/or recording. In other words, form a duo, trio or band that has some performing and maybe, recording goals. All others that just want to jam, dream or post their music, etc., these comments may not be of any use to you (or maybe will

1) Add a picture. It doesn't have to be the best shot, but just something that helps people get a comfort level with you. As a professional player, I ignore any profile without a picture.
2) If you are a singer, post a vocal song - It can be just you and a solo instrument. How else are people going to know what you sound like? Again, doesn't have to be the best recording, but something that is good enough to hear your voice. Some bands want a voice with perfect pitch, others a voice with style or emotion is more important to the music. Give them something that reveals your passion. I have heard a few singers with rough tracks on Bandmix that have so much raw talent, but go out of pitch. Pitch can be fixed. Talent is God given.
3) If you are a songwriter or in an original band, post a song (but make sure it is copyrighted!). Otherwise there is no way for people to know what you sound like. Plus, if people like your sound, but don't want to join the band, you may have just gained a fan.
4) Post what your goal is. Jeez, if you don't know what you are trying to do, why would anyone want to contact you? If you're not sure, hey, "not sure" or "just jamming" is better than nothing.
5) Post some influences, "classic rock" and "country" are not influences, they are genres. Eric Clapton is an influence, Taylor Swift is an influence.
Bandmix has given all of us this basically "free" format to express ourselves, so use its capabilities to the fullest. Most of all don't be afraid to be you and tell people what you are about and are looking for - more information is better than less on a profile. There are thousands of musicians, writers and singers out there just looking for "like souls"-just like you. Good luck.
