...to pick up the instrument of your dreams?

i was prepared to drive 1200 miles from Mid MO to Colchester Conn to pick up a 4 octave DEAGAN 64 marimba that's probably from the late '30's or early '40's.

it was listed on C-list for $2000 or best offer and due to it's size was "pick-up only".

these are very rare birds and the folks that have 'em don't part with them very often. at twice the price it would be a good deal.

so , i called and left several messages and texts last friday. finally heard back from her today and she said she made arrangements to sell it to someone last week. nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!

they're supposed to get it today but she had a note or two of skepticism in her voice about them actually showing up to do the deal.

dumbass that i am, i made the god awful mistake of asking her what price they agreed on.... $1000!!!!!

i am seriously, SERIOUSLY BUMMED OUT! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your wife must be a saint! (If she would allow you to drive 20+ hours each way to spend 2 grand on an instrument!)

There's many more guitars around than marimbas, so its just not the same for me.

I was lucky. I walked into Ken Stanton Music (Atlanta) and saw the guitar of my dreams hanging on the wall calling my name. At price cheaper than I'd anticipated.

White Gibson Firebird. I'd post a picture if I had one somewhere postable. Fits me like a dream.

Found my most loved bass ever in a pawnshop in Baltimore. (Ampeg Violin)

well, i had it all planned out, see? the purrrrrfect plan... i was gonna withdraw the 2K (no chance of her noticing, right?) then quietly disappear while i travelled a few days to get it.....sneak it into the house when she wasn't around knowing she'd never notice anything as small as that!

what could go wrong??????

wait....i'd need her to help me unload it from the van, get it in the house, and up the stairs to my music room. DOH!!! ok, so maybe the plan has a few kinks to be worked out.....still, hey not too bad for a rough draft, no????

Call them back this eve, or in the morning.
If they didn't show, go get it!
