Farming at least to me is a basic instinct. The desire to grow your own food teaches children responsibility and wholesome values. My son is a member of the FFA (Future Farmers Of America) he learned so many lessons from it. If someone wants to have a small vegetable garden in their backyard or raise some chickens I say let them!

Probably one of the few states that didn't have the 'local rule' in place. Certainly do in New England - its up to the communities to set their laws.
The article cites 'Shady Grove Farm' - at 6-1/2 acres, it wouldn't fall under the 250 ft rule anyway. Backyard breeders can do more harm to the animals and enviroment than real 'farms' and are hard to police.

Mike, so if a law is hard to enforce we just take away peoples rights so we don't have to deal with it? More like there ain't enough money in that kind of enforcement! I am so sick of that mentality because it erodes away my rights too!

I think the term for it HALEY is "homeowner's rights".. if I was in a city I am not sure I would like a chicken coop on my border fence.... Bolivar, Mo. will not allow chickens in the city limits.. while on the other hand, in Springfield chickens are allowed.. I remember my brother telling me about Houston and the lack of zoning regulations from the 1970'80's.. a high rise apartment could be parked next to a neighborhood grocery store, a chicken farmer might sit next to an office complex.. they let anything happen in Texas, even serial killings which Texas is noted for.. even a Manson gang member was from Texas so it just figures..

Your funny Dane! You see Texas believes in letting a property owner do what they want with THEIR property. It's called freedom you commie! That's why we have great jobs and the rest of the country can't get here fast enough. Just ask Toyota about the facilities they are going to build here? I'll tell you what you stay up there in Misery and we'll be perfectly happy down in Texas without the likes of you or your hillbilly brother!

So you're ok if a pig farmer sets up his farm right next door to you? (If you've ever driven by a pig farm on a summer day, you know it!) Or how about a slaughterhouse? Or if your next door neighbor starts breeding pitbulls that he keeps in his yard and bark and howl all night long? Or how about the neighbor who builds a huge 10 story building leaving your whole yard in perpetual shade?

Mike that's why I live in a subdivision that has a home owners association. We ALL can choose to live according to the choices we make. If you choose to live in a rural area of Texas it very well could happen. You could have an oil well spring up in your back yard. Just don't come down here telling us how to live in Texas. You make your laws and we'll make ours!

they can do whatever they want on the border of my 5.23 acre farm, but if you start burning tires, cooking meth, or your slaughterhouse is draining pig gut juice down on to me then I will need to call the DNR and get you shutdown..
