Fortunately I don't have that problem, but I have had back trouble since about age 12 or so, (some dumbass decided to show how tough he was by pushing the smallest kid around off the slide). Chiropractor did some good, but I wasn't able to keep going for a while until he could get everything mostly back in place. Whether it will help depends on just what's gone wrong. For that, probably. For mine, definitely, I'm pretty sure a disc has been slipping out of place from time to time for 40 years.

Lately though I pulled a muscle about 2 months ago and it keeps coming back every time I think I've got it back to normal. I guess splitting firewood doesn't help much...Hopefully that will end pretty soon and maybe I'll be able to just take it easy for a few days and let it just heal up, then I plan to start paddling a boat a bit and try to build up some strength in the back muscles again. Been out a couple of times, but taking it really easy, and not for long. Once I get in decent shape I should be able to give it a workout and I'm hoping no more of this crap...it damn well HURTS...had to take a muscle relaxer yesterday to be able to make it to band practice. Which went pretty well, and it's not giving me much trouble at all today.

I went to the Dr. This morning and he said my sciatica is muscular in nature. He believes it is a temporary condition. I got frustrated this morning and went into work and noticed after moving around that I started feeling better. I mean a significant improvement! I went to the Dr. since the appointment was made and just to be safe. Man is that some fricken serious pain. Anyhow I hope to get a decent nights sleep and put this nightmare behind me. I will most definately heed the warning my OLD body has given me!

Oh that I had the time, place, and opportunity to teach you my basic Tia Chi form.
15 minutes twice daily . . . you'd be a new man.

Or maybe an old one that feels a lot better.

George

From you post I wondered if you could offer any guidance:

I am thinking of seeing a Chinese traditional healer. I am 'heat intolerant' and tough titty says my doctor. Not good living with that in Georgia! When it gets over seventy I start getting really uncomfortable.

I figure my 'self' or whatever they call it, is out of whack. Have you any experience with acupuncture or Chinese healing?

thanks
Talbot

Yes indeed.

And for those whom might ask . . . learning to balance the natural flow of energy in the human systems does not conflict with my belief in Jesus Chrsit.

In the realm of TCM I say start with a qualified acupressure massage therapist before preceding into Herbs or actual acupuncture,.

Like all other forms of 'service' there are good men and there are quacks.
So be mindful of outlandish claims.
HINT:
Most often . . .
The good men will be humble in their approach to life and healing.

Thanks Glen, it is a slow recovery but I am progressively better every day. Went back to building desks today and put in a good day. The doctor did say no mobility (what I did) is worse than to much in this case.

Thanks George. Good advice which I intend to follow.

I don't see it conflicting with Christ either.

cheers

Right! I saw this one doctor who insisted I get some "new" injection to see if lazer surgery was best. He even kept making appointments I never agreed to, even after I told him I wasn't going to do this. I feel like a dollar sign with "Experiment" written on it. There's people a lot worse off than me. I was told by my childhood doc that I had a curve in my spine, and that surgery was too risky since one wrong move could paralyze me. Two docs confirmed that.
These new guys want to kick you to the curb for not letting them make your life worse. Heck, I don't have anyone to take care of me anyways, I gotta stay up.

Chiropractors? I guess they work for some...

I am still battling this problem. I am better but dang this is a long recovery! Finally able to sleep more than 2 hours at a time. I am considering a chiropractor. Any one have a bad/good experience with one? Please tell me your story I am trying to make a decision.

jeff, sorry to hear you're going thru this but glad to learn things are improving (even if it's slow progress). oddly enough my wife is going thru this right now and after doing some research she found her symptoms to line up squarely w those of a bulging disc. she couldn't get in to see our doc for a few days so she was convinced this was the end of life as she/we knew it.

when she got in monday....he diagnosed a pinched nerve and gave her some new stretching exercises to practice (in addition to the ones we already do).

as for chiropractors....i'm w the Zipper on that score. i believe in extreme cases they can be helpful but long term.....no thanks.

my one exp w a chiropractor:

when i was 23 i threw out my sacroiliac (until then i thought a "sacroiliac" was just something the Three Stooges joked about). i was at work and got a searing pain through my hip and back. i immediately grabbed some floor where i proceeded to flop around like a fish. looked up a chiropractor in the area and after awhile at his office in comes the doc...he's about 5 feet tall, thick coke bottle glasses, and hunchbacked. i sh*t you not! if i wasn't in so much pain i probably would have bolted. i explained what was going on and he got me on the table.....quick manipulation, and i heard that beautiful "crack" of everything falling back in place. i could have kissed him on the spot (but didn't).

of course he wanted me to come back regularly...but i had heard too much about how constant "manipulation" can be damaging in it's own way.

good luck, jeff (and everyone else dealing w back woes).

BTW...if there's anyone who still carries their wallet in their back pocket....that is a no, no when you're sitting.
